The Long Dark [Official Site, Steam, GOG] is the rather beautiful survival game currently in development that will eventually get a story mode. The game has just had a rather beefy update.

I'm quite fond of the game myself, as I showed it to a friend a while back on SteamOS with the Steam Controller and they were literally sold on it all there and then.

This update adds new game modes, new graphical enhancements, Linux audio will no longer break during ALT+TAB, updated version of Unity and more.

They have also included a few more languages: Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Finnish, and Dutch.

There's a lot to it, so you can read the full notes here.

I played it quite some time ago, and I liked it a lot! The linux version was a beta opt-in back then (idk what is it's current state) but it played very well and offered good performance on my old laptop. I really want to see this game a success, because it was beautiful, and one of the few truly good survival games.
I think I will give this game another go soon, the video you posted made me hungry for it :)

So this weekend I was exploring the dam. I stepped outside, but soon after a blizzard started and ran to get back inside. No go, one way door. Look for a relatively sheltered space, made a fire and decided to sleep. Huh, no bedroll? A damn, forgot to pick that up inside. No I have to wait with pass time for the blizzard to go. Six hours later, it was gone, but I was exhausted. Which forced me to drop half my gear in order to at least move slowly. Went down, crossed the ice to go back to the entrance. Around the last corner I stand face to face with a wolf. I tried to run, but in my exhausted state I couldn't do anything to fight him off. Died from blood loss.

I love this game! :D

A game I will probably take a look at - when it's ready.

One-way doors and an inability to sleep without a bedroll? I dunno, man... that sounds like "fake difficulty" to me.

Finaly, no more restart is needed from that awful sound bug.
TLD is also one of a few games thats shows how EA is done, or how it should be done.

Im still very hyped for the npc and all the upcoming travel options, seasons and mutch mutch more :D.
But one stable update at a time.

Yes it does, but this is a survival game we're talking about, not a simulator. You've got to draw the line somewhere. It's also in early access so we'll see how it develops.

This game is why Early Access was created. These guys are a shining example of how it should be done. They've released regular changes to the game and new content on a frequent basis.

Haha... had almost the same experience. And I'm not even mad... just that one-way door is kind of stupid. I hope it's just a bug.

Doors that only open from the inside are actually kind of normal. I just never thought of it in the game. Also, you can't actually leave it open.

As for fake difficulty, that is true I suppose. But it's a game, it's all fake difficulty. You just have to learn the mechanics.

While they may be doing everything right with their way of doing early access, this sounds like a game I would want to experience in full beauty from the beginning.
