The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a fantasy solo RPG with turn-based battles, it's made in the style of a table-top game. The developers have confirmed it's coming to Linux.

Speaking on the Steam forum the developer said:
QuoteHi Linux Firetop fans!

When we uploaded the initial builds of the game, we accidentally included an untested version of the Linux build. Some of you may have access to this game but keep in mind it is unofficial. We recommend that you wait 3-4 weeks for the official Linux release.

Thank you for your enthusiasm!

I really like the style of it, reminds me of some board games I used to play when I was younger. It has positive reviews overall so far too!

About the game
The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a tabletop adventure come to life! This fantasy solo RPG combines unique, simultaneous turn-based combat with a journey that changes based on each figurine you take into Firetop Mountain! Which hero will you take into Zagor's lair THIS time?

The original 1982 Fighting Fantasy gamebook paperback, written by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, has been transformed into an epic table-top adventure game, with new areas to explore, characters to meet, and of course, monsters to slay! Zagor's home assembles right before your eyes as you travel deep into the belly of the mountain.

Each character has their own motivations for being in Firetop Mountain, changing the way the gamebook is written and choices presented. Combat is fought using the digital miniatures in a simultaneous, turn-based system called GridBluff, and the game includes over 100 unique hero and monster figurines to discover.

Quoting: Crystal DaggerOh! It's the first time I've heard of the books to be honest, maybe they were not translated here or I'm not old enough to be aware of their existence (if they were from the 80's), I'll check it out and maybe get one or two (if they are worth getting) even if they are only in English.

Ha, so when I was much younger, I had gotten the Sorcery! books, also written by Steve Jackson. I ended up losing them all, but have re-bought them since, and then they have started releasing the games (1-3 so far, they haven't released 4 yet) but sadly they're not released for Linux yet :(

But I also discovered that the Sorcery! Steve Jackson is NOT the same as the Steve Jackson of Steve Jackson Games, which I've also always been fond of (GURPS, Car Wars, Ogre, Munchkin). Kind of funny that two dudes with the same name were so much into gaming, and creating games.

Not familiar with the books, but I loved Joe Decer's Lone Wolf series and this sounds similar. Might be worth a look.

Quoting: robvvI played the book (and many of the series) back in the '80s. It was great fun :-)

Yeah, I had virtually the entire series - including the spinoffs (such as "Titan" and "Out of the Pit" ) - so I can't wait to get my hands on this... I already have a couple of their Fighting Fantasy games on other systems (such as my Sony PlayStation Vita).

Totally buying this as soon as it supports Linux-based operating systems!
