I spoke to the developer of We Happy Few on twitter to get an update on the Linux version, it seems it has been pushed back.

Originally they said that the Linux version would be available during Early Access, but now it will be later:

@gamingonlinux Shortly acter the final release of the game :)

A real shame that it's coming out later than previously stated, but still great that it's coming. Looking forward to it, as it looks bonkers.

About the game

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

Reminds me a bit of Sir, you are being haunted, I don't really know why.

Well, duh! Both are extremely realistic simulations of life in Great Britain. Of course they'd be similar.

Good to hear it's still in the works as the Windows version requires a lot of work to be done on Wine.

My little sister showed me the trailer for this a couple months ago and said she thought it looked really neat. I didnt know it was coming to Linux, I'll have to scoop this up.

You really should look after your little sister - it's about drugs making you happy... :D

I didn't know it was coming to Linux either, but I did know it is using UE4 so maybe this factored in on the port? Hopefully the delay won't be many months after the initial release.

Even though the devs said at one point Linux would happen during early access, I never expected it to happen, especially since the devs were kinda reluctant about Linux during the kickstarter, implying they were not experienced or comfortable with developing for Linux. As long as the wait after full release is reasonable (i.e. a couple months), and not what happened with D: OS, I'll be happy.

"Shortly after release."

*11 months later*

Still no Linux release, eh?

From what I remember, that's what they always said it would be. I was actually hoping the news post was about the opposite. Oh well, next year I probably still need to take days off to play it. ;)

I don't really know where to discuss this, I just noticed that you could choose o display only Linux games in the Steam store here:

Doesn't seem to work that well, though.

They said in the past, that Linux version during development was possible, but not guaranteed. So I don't see major news here. I'm looking forward to the release however since I'm one of the backers (backed them when they announced plans for Linux towards the end of their campaign).

Not that I would buy a game in EA anyway, but it's always a bit worrying when a dev feels the need to launch on one platform then port it over. All supported platforms should progress at the same rate, really, or we're risking the usual lag after release before the Linux version comes out.

This looks great though - it's got a nice Bioshock Infinite vibe. I'll be scooping this up on release.
Shmerl 11 Sep 2016
Just don't expect it to be Bioshock Infinite. It's not (in many ways).

True, but game developers have slightly different priorities than gamers. Or open source projects. It's quicker to test and debug on one platform than all of them, and usually there's a valid reason (money) to get the finished product out of the door as quickly as possible. Even if development was done on all platforms simultaneously, it makes sense for a small team to initially concentrate their efforts and limited resources towards whichever platform is most profitable. I do get your point though.

I dont really mind them releasing a linux version when the game is done.
I know the attitude against this seems to be, you need to support linux from the start.

Im just happy If it runs on linux, nativly, in wine or something like it, has a good performece and
are counted as a linux purches when I get it.

And let windows beta test it. I can wait for the finished product.

That really is disappointing. I somehow expected a story-focused action adventure with an original style and premise.
