I spoke to the developer of We Happy Few on twitter to get an update on the Linux version, it seems it has been pushed back.

Originally they said that the Linux version would be available during Early Access, but now it will be later:

@gamingonlinux Shortly acter the final release of the game :)

A real shame that it's coming out later than previously stated, but still great that it's coming. Looking forward to it, as it looks bonkers.

About the game

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

Another procedurally generated survival crafting game.
That really is disappointing. I somehow expected a story-focused action adventure with an original style and premise.

It was mentioned somewhere that the story part of the game would not appear in the betas, only in the final game.

The gameplay does not seem interesting, so I'm not holding my breath. The game would need a damn good story to compensate.

Dont wanna to be a Downer here, bu i strongly doubt there will be Linux release at all. Not much of hints coming about it from developers, but you now, first they say it wuill be in alpha, then they say it will after shortly release, then they say "we encountered problems" you have to wait and in the end they say "You know, we moving on to new game/this one sold out/linux is too hard/not enough of users outside windows" and similar stuff.

This is an "untested" developer, so that may indeed be the case. This is also an Unreal Engine game, which has proven to be more difficult to port than Unity3D. We'll just have to see how it turns out.

They said it will be after the release. So far it's not released, so everything else is speculation. So we'll have to wait and see. I agree though, that it's a very bad approach to start testing Linux version post release only.

Basically, maybe it will come out eventually but probably not.

I see no reason for them to cancel it so far.

Compulsion are only [going to start working on Linux support soon](https://www.gog.com/forum/general/last_chance_grab_we_happy_few_before_the_price_goes_up_f39c3/post130). Hopefully some interesting update is coming.

Well, that's late. (I always fear such late ports will result in bad sale numbers and thus in a lower probability of later ports.) Thanks for sharing!

I believe the whole project is late, not really specific to Linux support. Might be wrong, but they're not even at full release yet and I think they always planned Linux for after that.

I'm just delighted they're still talking about it and have it on their plans. Hopefully it pans out.

I'm not completely convinced by the price though. The graphics do look beautiful, but it's nearly £25 and that's competing with some pretty stunning titles. That said, it's my kind of game, so I'll likely pick it up, even with the premium tag attached!

Ah, I thought they would have released long time ago. Well, that's at least good news from Linux port point of view, I guess. :o)
