Welcome back GamingOnLinux, hello new server

By -
We have a brand new server, one that's a little more costly (double+ cost in fact) but hopefully the server issues that have plagued us for the last few months will be a thing of the past.

Ah, the great migration of '16, we will look back on this and laugh, or cry, not sure which.

You may have noticed recently page load times have been annoyingly slow and sometimes (almost every week) it would time out. And mostly recently, we had a bit of a melt-down.

We have now moved to a new host, our original host in fact from years ago, one I trust a lot as we had a fantastic experience with them but I couldn't afford to stay with them back then as we grew. Things are vastly different now of course.

With that said, I would like to extend my personal thanks to Levi who has been our server admin for a long time now in his own spare time, with this move he will be stepping down from his post as server guru. I've relied on him for far too long, and he was far too good to me to do it all for free. He was an absolute star, so thank you dude!

The new server has more RAM, more CPU power and so on. It has a bit of extra padding to it to allow us to continue to grow for quite some time.

Hopefully now things will be a lot smoother with me paying people to yell talk at them when things break (or when I break them, which tends to happen).

As usual, if you love what I do, supporting me on Patreon really does help, seriously!

Here's to the future, may it be bright for us and Linux gaming in general!

Now back to the regular schedule. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

That's interesting. I never noticed an issue, probably because of the Australian timezone I guess. Nice work though.

Full specs, please.

I must say, I've never noticed any issues, coming from South Africa. But a better server is never a bad thing :D

Hailing from California, things seem back to normal - now I can obsessively check GOL along with pacman -Syu all day long as is my custom XD.

Africans culture is fascinating, it's nice to be united under a common cause with friends and people all over our one world :)

Great news!
I have had a lot of issues recently with this website, being in France. Pages loaded very slowly, if at all. Glad to know this is fixed now.

I only noticed there were any problems last night, followed almost immediately by an email from Liam and a new server this morning. That's an amazing turnaround! :-)

Quoting: GuestWell, that was fast! (Guess it's a bit later there though.)

So, before I do what's right and proper, what--EXACTLY--is the exchange rate of a Captain Morgan in dollars to pounds?

;)
I have no idea, but Captain Morgan Spiced is the best rum ever ;)

I would be lost without GOL on the net :P

Should be no more issues, page load is certainly blazingly fast.

You mustn't be in our IRC then, they noticed it a lot. We have a thing that tracks downtime too, which kept pinging me when it was timing out (too often).
