Looks like Desura is going to make a comeback sometime soon, as the new owners OnePlay have announced they have acquired it.
From their news post:
Bad Juju Games, the previous owner, went bankrupt and pretty much took Desura down with it. Right now the Desura store doesn't even seem to be online anymore.
The new owners say Desura will continue to operate (once it's back) by itself, and they are working to keep everyone's accounts alive, that includes games you own on it. So that's good news.
Still, I can't help but feel Desura doesn't really have a place with itch.io around. Competition is good I guess!
They face a rather large uphill battle after all the issues Desura had towards the end, it will be interesting to see what they do with it. I wonder if they will drop the desktop client, or revive that too.
Thanks for letting me know Ivancillo!

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
As much as I like Steam, Valve needs a good kick in the pants in products and customer service. Hopefully they can bring Desura to a more respectable platform.

Now if they could also revive the $500 they owe me, that'd be nice. :)

Great! I really hope to see Desura regain the level it had three or four years ago.

From Developer point of view if they not get royalties sorted first, devs will not publish anything on that platform. Maybe better left to rot than try to revive it.

And is a good news, because I didn't downloaded all my games from there..

Desura is still nice. We have many old and native Linux games like Northland, Earth and few more, and we can get them only on Desura. I know, Earth is now available on Steam but only via WINE. So If Desura back to life - im still buying on it.

They were the first major service to introduce Linux support :) I have a soft spot in my heart for them :)

Desura has literally no value. It's infamous at best, game selection is non-existing, and the client software is a mess. It really is no competition to anybody. I wish them best of luck and all, but the story sounds all too familiar. Oh yeah, that's why: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/ownership-of-desura-changes-again.4544

Desura was the first digital download store that treated Linux as an equal platform to Windows and MacOS. Just like with Steam, this did motivate developers to port to it. Back then, Desura had an impression portofolio of Linux games and it took some time for Steam to overtake it. Desura might even have inspired Valve that Linux could be a good game platform.
Therefore the return of Desura means something to me. It's more than just simply a store, just like names like Loki and LGP, Desura is part of the history of Linux gaming.
