Looks like Desura is going to make a comeback sometime soon, as the new owners OnePlay have announced they have acquired it.

From their news post:
QuoteDesura, Indie Royale, and Daily Royale is now a part of the OnePlay family.

We are working hard to bring back Desura, IndieRoyale and DailyRoyale to deliver you more awesome indie games.

Bad Juju Games, the previous owner, went bankrupt and pretty much took Desura down with it. Right now the Desura store doesn't even seem to be online anymore.

The new owners say Desura will continue to operate (once it's back) by itself, and they are working to keep everyone's accounts alive, that includes games you own on it. So that's good news.

Still, I can't help but feel Desura doesn't really have a place with itch.io around. Competition is good I guess!

They face a rather large uphill battle after all the issues Desura had towards the end, it will be interesting to see what they do with it. I wonder if they will drop the desktop client, or revive that too.

Desura exists as a name and brand.

I don't really know how or even if they're responsible to make good on the old company's debts to developers etc... but it will take some seriously perfect apps, perfect new store with 100% different theme and some very intelligent marketing to make a relaunch that gets people excited.

I'm excited to see what happens and wish them well, in this case Infamous at least establishes the brand. Similarly I loathe EA Games, but their brand seems larger than ever even after winning the worst gaming company in america award.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLDesura is still nice. We have many old and native Linux games like Northland, Earth and few more, and we can get them only on Desura. I know, Earth is now available on Steam but only via WINE. So If Desura back to life - im still buying on it.
As far as I know, Earth 2140 is not on Linux at all on Steam.

Ahh my mistake but Earth 2140 is on TopWare todo Linux WINE port.

I agree that itch.io makes Desura obsolete. But having access to my games again would be nice.

When you see familiar faces,
But you don't remember where they're from,
Could you be wrong?
When you've been particular places,
That you know you've never been before,
Can you be sure?
'Cause you know this has happened before,
And you know that this moment in time is for real,
And you know when you feel Deja vu.

Feel like I've been here before,
Feel like I've been here before.

Ever had a conversation,
That you realize you've had before,
Isn't it strange?
Have you ever talked to someone,
And you feel you know what's coming next?
It feels pre-arranged.
'Cause you know that you've heard it before,
And you feel that this moment in time is surreal,
'Cause you know when you feel deja-vu.

From their faq:

Quote4. What is going to happen to my Desura account?

We are working hard to try to get your old Desura account back alive, but will let you know if we fail to do so.

5. Will I be able to access all my old games, that I have purchased on Desura previously?

Our first priority is to get you access to already owned games from the old Desura platform, but we currently don’t have a timeline for making it happen. Sign up for our newsletter to get the latest news.

This looks much too uncertain; personally I won't return to using desura unless most games are restored and all the debts to the devs. are paid (the latter being the most important).
