'Enclave' [Steam] is another Wine-port from Topware Interactive who promised to bring their older published titles to Linux. I'm totally okay with this, and it's currently in Beta.
Wine enables us to play a great many things we otherwise wouldn't be able to, so for developers to actually test it and release their old games with a build of Wine that works well, can only be good for us in the long run.
You can see the Linux announcement on Steam here.
Official feature list:
- Breathtaking combat action
- Amazing 3D graphics with latest Shader technolgy support
- 2 separate story driven single player campaigns: Light and Dark Campaign
- 25+ highly detailed fantasy themed missions
- Secret bonus games
- 12 different playable character classes
- 5 mighty end bosses
- Epic musical score and impressive sound FX

Tested the game on two systems (the one on the info and another one with a AMD Phenom X4 965 and a HD 7970 card using Mesa) and apart from a gamma bug that's likely to be fixed soon, the game works very well (well, a 2003 game) never going below 140 FPS.

Interesting. I have this on GOG, where I think I bought it on impulse during some sale. I have never played it, so it would be great if the Linux version makes it there as well...

Oh yeah, Enclave! This is a pretty good action game, even if you do have to play a few missions on the Light side before you unlock the Dark side.
This game is fun to play and has some outstanding environment design for it's day.
This'll definitely tide me over until Dark Souls gets a Linux release.

Topware! The german scumbags who stole money from the honest Transcripted devs!
Do NOT buy anything from them! They are rascals! They were supposed to be bankrupted by now, but somehow they still exist!
Boycott Topware! Do NOT feed the german mafia!

WINE-porting old titles should actually be encouraged and done more often! Porting old and obsolete code is counter-productive and time-consuming. WINE can most often run old games without any issues, after some configuring, thus allowing a very easy "port" to be done. Also, the performance loss is most of the times unnoticeable on most hardware, tho less-than-average systems may indeed suffer a bit.
We should also not forget that the main reason why so many games get a port is Steam OS/Machines... So WINE-porting an old game for Steam OS is totally ok since ALL of the Steam Machines have good enough hardware to handle the translation overhead and offer a good performance.

Well it's literally just a Wine port, so you're better off just getting the GoG Windows version and installing that in your existing Wine setup.

So.... More information please? Lots of information is missing & everyone is capable of mistakes - was the motive behind that skirmish identifiable or was it a muddy battle?
