The release of Mad Max [Steam, Feral Interactive] for Linux is fast approaching this week (20th!) and Feral have now updated their website with the minimum and recommended system specifications.

System requirements
Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit / SteamOS 2.0

Minimum
Intel i5 3.4 GHz or AMD FX8350 64-bit processor
8GB RAM
2GB Nvidia 660ti graphics card or better (driver version 367.35)

Recommended
Intel i7 64-bit 3.6 GHz processor
16GB RAM
4GB Nvidia 970 graphics card or better (driver version 367.35)

AMD & Intel GPU's are not currently supported. Since Mesa has made amazing progress this year, I am hoping it won't be too long before they can be pushed up to supported status. The most likely reasoning is that the current stable release of Mesa probably doesn't have high enough OpenGL version support.

How do you think your PC is going to handle Mad Max? Looks like the Recommended requirements are pretty high this time which is a sign that Feral is preparing us for a heavy game.

Will you be picking up a copy? I will hopefully do a livestream of the game once it has released, so keep an eye on our Twitch channel. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I just hope that it is optimized well for the specs that are listed above :) I'm looking forward to this game, looks very great on all trailers.

Specifying a clock speed is kinda confusing, will be a wait and see for people falling just below the spec. Will be interesting to see if this is actually CPU bound and how it scales with more cores. Also interesting that minimum spec for Mac is 200MHz lower than linux....

Mac's come with specific processors, so they will be different.

This sounds like a bad port. The spec is much higher than the game seems to need.

Specs in Windows are also High
Minimum:

OS: 64 bit: Vista, Win 7, Win 8, Win 10
Processor: Intel Core i5-650, 3.2 GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 Ghz
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660ti (2 GB Memory or higher) or AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2 GB Memory or higher)

?

Did you take a look at the Windows specs before judging the port?

It also depends on which generation of the processor it runs... if you run 2nd gen or 3rd of i5 3,4 GHz it might be way different than running it on 6th gen... I'll report how it performs on i5 6600 3,4 GHz w GTX970 OC, I just hope that the game is stable without frame drops, that would mean that it's well optimized.

System requirements should be taken with a grain of salt, in some cases they are inaccurate. Let's take Witcher 3 for example which is a high end game where it asks for an i5 as Minimum processor and a GTX660 card and yet my friend can run it on an i3-2100 and a 650TI GPU at 1080p with over 35-40fps (or more in some cases).

Another thing someone may have not noticed is how come the recommended specs ask for 16GB Ram for Linux, meanwhile the recommended for Windows is 8GB. If the Linux version really requires twice as much as Windows then they must have some serious lack of optimization and a really bad memory leak.

Secondly, GHZ don't mean much these days. Most AMD cpu's with on par clock speed perform poorly compared to Intel. It's more of a performance-per-core thing.

Ultimately, if you have a medium range system from the last 4-5 years you should get a good experience with this game.

Did you NOT read the comments?

Liam noted a page or two up that Ferel always recommends higher specs than is necessary including minimum specs.

The specs they recommend are mainly what hardware it's been tested on.

Oh, I will be purchasing Mad Max; I've been anticipating its release on Linux since it was first in the press release and later redacted.

Now all I need is for "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" to be officially announced. ;)

That is my current fondest hope for games on Linux. I loved the first 2 and really want to play the 3rd but I just cant bring myself to boot windows. At this rate I will play it on WINE when it finally supports DX11 !

Really looking forward to this game.

My specs are good as I have a 1070, however I may need to apply an overclock to my i7 4770k cpu as I am currently runnning it at stock. I have 16GB of ram but could bump this to 32GB if needed as I aquired a 32GB kit to use in 2 machines.

Cant wait to finally put some stress my pc, lol.

Going by those specs, you will be mostly fine.

The original Windows version required an i5 650, 3.2 GHz. My i5 3350P 3.1 GHz plays it wonderfully and never drops below 60 FPS. I don't know why they dropped the numerical designation and only list the clock speed, which is really not that helpful.
Asu Oct 18, 2016
Quite high but the game is pretty. It's a buy.
hidekin Oct 18, 2016
Quoting: GuestWonder if I'll be able to play this at 60FPS+ at 4K with some graphics options lowered...probably not though! :D
I could max out the game in 4k with a 770 at 60fps with windows. I don't know what configuration you've but if the port is good it wouldn't be so difficult :D
Aimela Oct 18, 2016
Quoting: skinnyrafZOTAC Steam Machine is equipped with a 2.2 (2.8 turbo) GHz i5-6400t CPU, thus fails to meet minimum requirements.
Still, requirements are generalizations and clock speed isn't everything.

But could you mad max it out? ;)

My rig IS the required minimum. fx8350, GTX 660ti. Except I have 16 Gigs of Ram. I will definitely give this a try and report my findings.

I purchased Mad Max for the PS4 ages ago - one of the few console games I own, although did not get around to completing it. I'll almost certainly pick this port up as well, but I'll be wait for reviews, confirmed Mesa compatibility with AMD cards, and probably a sale.
