VR support for Linux has been lacking and the communication around it has been pretty damn poor by Valve and HTC, but it seems this is about to change at SteamDevDays.

This image was shared by Pierre-Loup Griffais of Valve:

There will be plenty of talks across today and tomorrow, and I've seen plenty of developers chatting about it in my list of Twitter followers. Sounds like a lot of excitement around SteamDevDays.

I am really excited to see the videos of the talks afterwards, and hopefully we will get a real announcement on when Linux support for the HTC Vive will actually land. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: MaCroX95Wow, I was really starting to get concerned what is going on with their Linux support for VR, seems like Valve will never forget about Linux, they are making it stronger gaming platform slowly but surely :)

It's really quite a special company. Like... "We've got money. We've got time. We don't care." X)

Yeah... they relatively have no profit of investing all this money into Linux gaming support and everything that comes with it, but honestly all developers should be like that either they make money from it or not. Because Linux is not about proprietary stuff and closing things down... and we are thankful to everyone who decides to support us, there are cross-platform frameworks and graphic APIs now that support all platforms and all developers should adopt them to make gaming better and more open from the ground up.

Yesyesyes, now I am hyped. Thank you, Pierre-loup, thank you Valve.

It was indeed about (valve) time.

I hope they will add this support to openvr, though I also hope they would open source their implementation.

Quoting: badberAwesome, this'll make me more interested in the Vive over Rift if that's what it's for.

Rift lost it's edge the moment Facebook became involved. At that point you just knew that it was only a matter of time before adverts started appearing in VR games and experiences, product placement etc

Very excited! I hope it will be an article about these SteamDevDays too...

By the way, Vive for Linux is useless without games... Hope to see "The Lab" ported too!

I want to try VR really bad but:
1)my pc can't run it for now
2)the VR alone costs a lot (I mean Vive)
3)I don't have enough space in my room to play

If someone have a Vive to gift, I'm here...

Linux VR along with a new version of SteamOS? Just a wishfull thinking. :)

For a second I thought that they want to demonstrate VR on Linux using Alienware Steam Machine, or perhaps even NEN SN970, the awesome Steam Machine I happen to own, which uses a modified GTX 960/970m/whatever, so does not meet VR requirements officially.

...And then I saw the ugly, battered tower labelled LINUX VR DEMO...

Finally. It was about time! And maybe when they will be done with this they can look into making Steam Broadcast work on Linux too.

Quoting: operaUncharted trilogy for Linux VR confirmed!

Trilogy? You mean like in number 3. And we are talking about Valve and VR, that only can mean Half-Life 3 confirmed as Linux VR exclusivity.

Another interesting point in SDD program is "Building Unity Games for SteamOS/Linux".
