Put the pitchforks down and stop flipping tables, as it seems Shadow Warrior 2 [Official Site] should still be coming to Linux.

Previously we mentioned that a developer at Flying Wild Hog said "Linux version - no, I don't think so.", but we now have a different answer:
QuotePaweł is our level designer and didn't know about our target platforms.

And then:
QuoteOh, it's just a standard issue when people without PR training (like me or Paweł) answer questions. We try very hard to be helpful and answer everything even if we don't the answer. After first s....storm we learn to not to answer questions for which we don't have an answer :).

That reply is from the same person who originally said that Linux wouldn't be a day-1 release due to a decision from the publisher. The publisher denied it and then that post was deleted.

I get that some people may not be entirely aware of Linux, but developers need to be a bit more careful when giving answers. It does still surprise me that people "without PR training" seem to be so confused about Linux. It's okay to say you don't know. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

This was a sophisticated PR campaign to come into the news...!
No, it wasn't. Just some guys doing the best they can.
Glad to see the news was wrong.
The game looks like it might be some guilty pleasure. :)

Okay, I'm putting the table back :D

Sometime there is more drama and suspense in a forthcoming Linux release then in all the 7000 episodes of "the Bold & the Beautiful"..

Colour me not surprised. And excited. I may use this weekend to finally play through the first (well, the remake) one. I only played for about an hour when I first got it.

That's good to hear. Thanks for the update.

Well, honestly I expected it to be something of that nature, although it´s nice to have it confirmed. Now all we need to wait for is actual confirmation that there *IS* a version for linux that people are actively working on, and all will feel much better. ;-)

Currently "Shadow warrior 2" is reviewed as "Overwhelmingly Positive" on Steam, with 1,124 positive reviews and 40 negative, so it sounds pretty much like a "Must Have"-title.

Game level designers are not the sort of people to get platform news from, Liam.

You need engine devs for that. Or porters. Admittedly, some companies have no idea what they are actually doing. If only there was a way to specify a linux contact person...

Strange that they would answer if they aren't sure. I guess everyone wants to make themselves sound important and in the know, but ultimately it's not a good look for a company.

Anyway, I'm mighty eager for this game to come to GNU/Linux. Shadow Warrior (2013) was a blast. Unfortunately I already finished it under Wine before the port was released, but AFAIK SW2 doesn't work under Wine so I never picked it up. But a GNU/Linux port? I'll almost certainly be buying it as soon as it's out.

Great news. Reviews for this game have been over-the-top positive so far.

Just for this, Linux should get the flipping table as a weapon in the game.

If it comes out, I will buy it. If it doesn't come out I will buy something else.

And cry.

Looking at the steamdb entries I don't see any indications the Linux version has started development. We may be in for a long wait. Also makes me worry they may not have paid attention to cross platform support in their development tools.

Hopefully it all works out. Just don't buy it until Linux release, no matter how good a sale comes along.

Repeat after me: "I don't know."

There, was that so hard?

The quote was: "Linux version - no, I don't think so.", so he wasn't really expressing anything with certainty. That's just reverse hype at work.

This is an instant buy for me.

Ha! That's what I thought when he gave his answer on Twitch. I felt he didn't even knew that the first one has been ported to Linux... as soon the Linux Version is out, I'll buy the game!

Go for it, it's a great game if you like the style of old-school games like Doom or Duke Nukem.

Valve provide tools for developers but not everyone has to use them, they may be using their own versioning system, their own continuous integration tools and their own automatic deployment scripts and if so they will probably only put it on Steam servers only a fews days before release for Valve quality control.

There is not a lot of games developers used to Linux and the same goes for game testers, and that's why when porting project are done internally it often take longer than anticipated. But it can only get better with time as we get more and more games to our platform.

Why is some guy who hauls baggage supposed to know what's going on? ;)
