More information courtesy of all the developers at SteamDevDays. Steam will apparently be getting a massive update/refresh soon and the amount of games releasing on Steam has been increasing by a lot.
As soon as a couple weeks, Steam will get some kind of major update (source), but it seems they didn't go into too many details as to what will be updated. This confirms earlier leaks, which detailed a slight refresh in the look of the store and giving curators a better presence.
Note: This is a store update, not a client update.
The last time Steam had a major update we had a new look, new filters, curators, the discovery queue and so on. It was a big update and helped a lot with finding games, so it will be very interesting to see what Valve have in store for us.
Since 2014 the amount of games being released on Steam has literally exploded:

That's insanity, great for gamers of course and it shows how Valve's approach has changed to allow such growth of their store.
The problem with this, is that this kind of growth cannot be sustained in reality. Sure it's a lot easier for developers to make games than it probably was a few years ago thanks to all the amazing tools available, and we will likely see the actual growth of games continue due to this. The main issue is revenue, developers are fighting an increasingly high uphill battle to get noticed amongst the vast amount of games.
It also seems like Asia is a huge market compared to what it used to be and it's growing fast, that's nearly 500% growth from one region since SteamDevDays in 2014:

That's pretty amazing, so I hope developers are looking at this and are seriously thinking about translations for their games.
Samsung is planning to integrate Steam Link with their TV units (source), which is pretty cool news. I wonder if any other manufacturer is thinking on this. In future you may be able to pick up a TV from a bunch of different sources that come with it, so no need for a seperate box. That's actually damn cool.

Even in the slowest areas they appear to have seen ~50% growth in the last two years. I don't know if that's impressive from a business standpoint, but it looks impressive to me!

I wonder what percentage of all that growth is crappy Unity asset-flip garbage which somehow made it through Greenlight. :)

I hope that the update brings the option to turn off a number of Steam features such as achievements, tracking of time spent in game, badges, and other stuff I simply do not want on my profile. I am all about options.

I am all about options.I'm mostly hoping that it'll finally give us the option to only see Linux games when browsing, and to filter out Early Access if we want. (I've never really understood why Early Access isn't just another checkbox in the "Show Selected Types" box, while searching.)

Don't chinese have their own Linux distro Ubuntu Kylin that's actually official flavour of Ubuntu made for China? :D But yeah Asia is big -.- hopefully we will see some more of them on Linux as well :)
Linux has already got a bunch of great stuff in 2016... Wayland coming into play, AMD's new drivers, Vulkan, new Skype for Linux alpha (MS has decided to support linux? xD is MS Office next since there is way too many alternatives now for them to be completely comfortable with their Windows exclusive software...), a bunch of great new Steam games, Steam VR... Probably it also got a plenty of kernel related things but I'm not into that much... Overall I think that this year happened more great things than in the last few years combined :) Hopefully things will go on with the same tempo as they do now!

Yes please, localize the games and the Steam Client itself to be able to compete, otherwise there is no way you'll be catching any market share away from Sony's PS4.

AFAIK the Ubuntu Kylin is mostly for officials and the vast majority of Chinese people are running pirated Windows.

Pirated Windows seem to be very popular in my country too and with Linux being so capable of almost everything I really don't see a reason for such things... I don't see a point in pirating a Windows version that you use for Facebook and browsing or some basic text editing... well people can be strange and especially uninformed.

That setting does not actually work for only showing Linux/SteamOS games, I still get Windows-only titles everywhere.I'm mostly hoping that it'll finally give us the option to only see Linux games when browsing

Strange, this has been fixed on all my computers last month, Steam says built sept 20th. It is back to showing just Linux games for me, like it use to.

The Steam Greenlight program was introduced in mid-2012 and not long after, the number of game releases began to grow sharply. A lot of these games being pixel art, 2D retro, side scrolling, anime, urban visual lesbian midget romance novels made by a team of 1. Of course, I'm not complaining... I just don't swing for that team.
Though I completely agree with your sentiments over achievement and stat tracking. Not everyone wants to have their game hours or online/offline status broadcast to the world. Which is probably one driving force behind competing stores.

Now the government is overall changing to Linux, it is becoming widely known and appreciated to the general public too! There are even shops offering a Kylin installation over an (illegal) Windows installation.
Windows is over in China and Russia, India and Brasil among many other countries are following too.
