Team Fortress 2 [Steam] has a big halloween update, and with it a well needed fix for the Linux version to do with textures.

The problem is that TF2 has been giving people issues with "Out of memory" errors, which this patch improves. It's not totally solved yet, so you may need to reduce your texture option a bit until it's fully solved.

Other than that, the big update adds in new maps, new halloween crates, new taunts, and loads more. See the full changelog here. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Is this supposed to help with the game crashing on open source drivers any? Never experiencd an issue on proprietary drivers.

I downloaded the update with the hope that it might fix the graphics lockup issue affecting radeonsi cards, but after about 5 minutes of playing, it happened again.

One guy at Phoronix said that disabling multicore rendering (under Video settings) fixed the crashes for him in radeonsi. You can try that.

They still can't fix performance impact in Linux... they have more than one year and this issue still persist:

tf2 has bad performance in general regardless of platform, its needed an optimization update for years

update is pretty meh, there's nothing real substantial, just halloween maps and a head-scratching competitive matchmaking map change, additionally the halloween contracts still aren't working after 3 days :\

I have to say this update helped performance for me (FOSS radeon driver) ALOT when I get to use my custom config (like chris's max-frames), that is when playing casual - very smooth now, and I think it even bumped my texture settings a bit above the rock bottom I've been using (it looks nicer). With the forced settings of competitive I still have crap FPS. It very rarely crashes at least. I love tf2 no matter how crappily optimized it is :P

I uninstalled TF2 when they changed the matchmaking system. I take it the issues with that have been solved by now?

I tried to play. I did get the whole computer crash (endless text in a tty). But the game would have long pauses, even going to a black screen every few minutes.
