It's not often a trailer leaves me begging for more, but 'Tether' [Steam Greenlight, Official Site] ticked all my boxes. The developer is using UE4 and claims the Linux builds are working as expected.

I asked the developer about the status of Linux, and they replied with:
QuotePorting with UE4 is a very simple process provided you have the correct operating system. We have the equipment in place and have been testing various bakes across the different Linux flavors. Results have been as expected.

About the game
Tether is a first-person adventure game based in a dilapidated science fiction world. Earth is dying after the collapse of several continents throughout the world following the destruction of the Moon - as natural disasters sweep the planet, the newly formed United Environmental Federation (UEF) accelerate plans to terraform the nearest possible habitable planet, Mars.

You play as Lesleigh Hayes - a Biological Research Assistant for the UEF - on her first deep space voyage to Mars. Once aboard the Sonne, Lesleigh's thoughts turn to her children as she re-lives some of their final conversations before leaving. As catastrophic events unfold on the UEF Sonne, Lesleigh is forced to survive the psychological horrors of isolation in deep space.

Can she live with the consequences of her choices? How will these affect her children? Is this how motherhood should be?

What do you think? Sounds good to me! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

That quote says it all. That's how it should be done.

Okay... gotta' put that one on my watchlist. This does not just look great, the setting, the mood they deliver... a mix of mass effects and the darkness of the Metro series.

Suggest it to the developers :) I am sure they will love to translate it at some point, as it generates extra income, but potentially it's also additional development cost :)

Oh yes, this does look promising! Interestingly, "Tether" is also related to Linux in that the STS-75 NASA space shuttle mission's purpose was to carry the Tethered Satellite System into orbit and the STS-75 was the first NASA mission program to run on the Linux kernel ;)
"Tether" also happens to be the name of my musical project, which I named for the same reason ;)

Man, really like your stuff, gonna listen to it throughout today. I can totally imagine the top-most track, Reappear, playing during the closing credits of this game ^_^

As long we can still have english as default or let me change the language to english, I'm ok... I have my OS in Portuguese but hate when games just are in PT and do not let me change, or apps in android that do that...

I assume you now mean subtext translations? Cause not everyone are professional actors like the one who did the voice for this trailer obviously is.
It would be a catastrophy to replace that with an amateur recording of various languages, recorded in subpar studios :D

But yeah, text translations would be sweet.

Hi,

I am Jeffrey the Community Manager at Freesphere Entertainment.

To answer your question, localization of the game is definitely something we would like to offer players. However, this usually takes time and budget as Tether is a story driven game with over 10,000 words already, as you can imagine this takes time. Being a small team with no budget we have to pick and choose our battles.

Localization is important to us and will be rolled out soon after launch if not at launch.

As Liam said, ticked all my boxes. That "How to scare players" blog post has me hopeful as well. Should be through Greenlight in no time at all. How is the planning on this? I didn't see anything mentioned anywhere.

Cool! Thanks a lot :D I hope you like the rest as well - it does a bit of genre-hopping ;)
