Holy cow! Wasteland 3 is now on Fig looking for funding, and the good news is that it has almost reached it's goal!

As of writing it has 10,621 Backers giving over $487K against the $2.75M goal. I've no doubt this is going to just keep rising for some time. They have a full 28 days left too, this is pretty much confirmed then!

The fantastic news about Wasteland 3 is that the developer is planning a simultaneous release on all platforms:
QuoteSimultaneously releasing to Windows, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

It sounds like it's going to be a massive game, that will completely dwarf Wasteland 2 is size and scope of everything.

It will have multiplayer, vehicles, your base will evolve through the game and more.

It is planned for release on both Steam and GOG, so that should keep everyone happy. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: killyouI work in IT so I know that big projects might be tricky if it comes to time and resource management

(Me too.) Then I wonder even more what we are talking about.
I'll say it again: We don't know if...
* the financial planning included expected sells,
* the financial planning could be adhered to,
* more money was spent to make a better game due to more money flowing in.
I totally expect that the first is true and, as you said, it would be no wonder at all if the second would be true as well. I got no information if the third was done for Wasteland 2, but I did hear it for some kickstarter projects. But every single point could refute your conclusion on its own.

That's the point. The campaign usually says: we are dumping publishing company and we need X amount of money to do this cool game so it is natural to expect all the other money they get is just piling up on their account and waiting to be used for another project. If that's not the case then they are being dishonest. They should have be more open about this since they are looking for investors more than anything else. These are just my reasons for not crowdfunding.

I read that as "Additionally to the money we've lent from the bank/mums we hopefully can pay back if we sell lots of copies after we finished the game, we need some more money to actually create it."

If you create a game like Wasteland 2 or Wasteland 3, you know you will sell copies. It would be... surprising business behaviour not to take account of that from the strat. I guess everybody would he happy if they could do without, but world usually is not like that.

Quoting: killyou...they HAVE the money but are asking people to chip in anyway to minimize the risk.
I think this is the most likely reason. Unless Inxile is really bad at company management then they have money in the bank. Kickstarter and other crowdfunding schemes are basically a source of risk-free money, which I suppose as a business is extraordinarily attractive. It's also one of the reasons I dislike crowdfunding, because it puts most of the risk on the consumer
