Thanks to everyone who is already funding, I have been able to put out more interesting stuff than I ever could be before. Here's a small reminder that I rely on you guys to keep GOL going!

The Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/liamdawe

I'm already amazed at the level of support I have and I hope more decide to support me in future too.

I provide HTTPS for free by default for everyone (as it should be), all features are generally available to everyone (apart from the dark theme), the ability to set how many comments you see per-page, the release calendar and so on.

I am also committed to never hiding any content behind a paywall, that will simply never happen here.

Without your help, GOL would simply not be here. Thanks to you guys we now have a pretty damn good server with people at hand to fix server-side issues, allowing me more time to just get stuff done.

One thing my Patreon supporters have asked of me is to do more interviews, so I am working on that. I already published one today with the developer of Tether. I have another one pretty much ready and an interview with Feral will be hopefully coming soon too. I am hoping to line up at the very least one interview every single month from now on.

What I don't want to do is remind people about Patreon all the time (I just want to get on with it and do it), as I know it can be annoying. I haven't put out an article asking for support since March and won't do again for some time.

Also a sidenote: When people decide to stop funding, they can enter a comment to explain why. I am never able to see who it's from, and it's entirely optional but one caught my eye:
Anonymous PersonNo longer comfortable pledging to an individual when the site is build on the content/contributions of many

I actually found that quite interesting! So I wrote a script which you can now find here to see who has done what (along with other fun info). Hopefully that gives a clear idea of my commitment here.

To be clear on this one: anyone who contributes to GOL does so out of their own free time because they want to. They do get the offer of free keys when I have them too. I am extremely appreciative of anyone who contributes anything, be it articles or funding.

Thank you for your support and keep buying awesome Linux games! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: Tchey5€ a month feels too much for the content of the website, i would pay 1€ or 2€, without premium, only to support "somehow", like i support other websites like general news (not video game related, i mean world news) and other topics.
You can contribute any amount you like as long as you're fine with not getting the "rewards" (which in this case is just a tag under your avatar if I'm not mistaken). For instance you can see (as of now) that out of 196 patrons, only 111 chose the $5 tier - which is the only tier.

Yeah as they said above, you set whatever level you want :)

No, it's different, and depends on national laws. It's 25% for me.

So, when i pay 2,40 euro to Patreon each month, how much arrives to Liam's pocket in real ?

If you pledged 2.4euro then I likely get 2 euro in my pocket. It's not bad really all things considered. When you take into account the amount it would actually cost me to do handle everything Patreon does myself (including tracking VAT for each country and paying it which Patreon does for me!), it would cost a lot more.

Thanks for the support.

Regarding the "contributions of many" argument, I'd like to remind you of a dark time when Liam temporarily gave up actively participating in GOL and we went volunteer-only for a couple of days. While there definitely were contributions and many tried their best to pitch in, it was at best a hectic mess of chaos and destruction. So yeah, Liam is kinda an important figure here. Not to mention that the rest of us know perfectly well what kind of compensation we can expect when we write stuff. I for one have gotten way more than I could have ever expected.

Hi Liam,

I am new to Patreon and I can't see how I can pledge any amount other than $5 / month. What am I missing ?

When you actually go to make a pledge, you should have a box to enter any amount you like :), thank you for considering supporting me :)

Well it's strange. I had to pledge $5 first, and once that pledge was confirmed, I have been able to edit it and change the amount. Well now it's OK.
Keep on the good work !
