Deus Ex: Mankind Divided [Feral Store, Steam] hasn’t been out long, but it already has the first Linux patch available which enables the Breach mode for us.

I’ve tested it out and here’s a video of what you can expect from the Breach mode:

Overall, Breach seems like it’s okay but nothing special. The main story mode is fantastic, and this is just a little free challenge mode included in the game. Could be fun for an hour or two, but there's not all that much to it.

The patch notes are pretty short:

I'm still in Prague and still discovering things. I love the amount of detail that goes into these games, but it plays hell with my OCD..

i don't think so, there's no dx on linux (captain obvious), but if it's a dx improvement it probably was made by eidos on dx specifically, and maybe feral didn't even include any of those changes in the linux version at all.

I did some thorough-ish testing using the benchmark and certain scenes and the patch does actually produce a 2-5fps boost under Linux, which starts bringing performance more in line with what Windows was at release (although not necessarily where it is today).

I am still not sold on this one. I mean: I really want to buy it and play it, but I know my current rig won't handle it.

I am waiting for the new AMD stuff to upgrade, but that won't be before next year.

However, I really want to show some support. Should I buy it now?

Definitely hold off until you have a proper rig. By that time a few more performance patches may trickle down, and there may even be a sale.
This is definitely a demanding game to run, especially on Linux. I wouldn't try it on anything less than a GTX 1060 or RX480. I had to upgrade my GTX 760 to get it to be playable.
As far as the game goes, I'm very much enjoying it. So definitely plan on picking it up, later!

Setting the game to high it looks like on average performance is around 12-15% less than Windows (at least from numbers I have from websites and forums around its release). Prior to the patch the performance difference was 18-20%. So it's quite a bit smoother, although it would be nice to get it within 10%.

The game might be more faster but the game crashes reliably now after coming out of a Metro Station (going up the stairs). Could be a bug in the game itself since I read about several situations where it crashes on Windows.

Once I find some time I'll collect a few more infos and post them here

@Feral thanks for the port and work on it !

It might be possible to enable some more eyecandy with my GTX760 after those performance improvements :)

Like mentioned before: the card is a GTX760,

the game prior to the latest patch was more or less fluid even on medium graphic settings and 1400x900 with several of the effects turned off (+ hair rendering disabled)

but now EVEN WITH THAT it lags and stutters heavily while merely looking left and right or moving faster/running.

Also it got way more unstable: yesterday shortly after the patch it crashed 3 times out of 3 attempts (mostly while running)

and today also on this launch while merely walking around


Current state is night, I'm aware that this needs more processing power,

the thing is however that it worked fine before without crashing or several stuttering and lagging


OS is ~amd64 Gentoo Linux, glibc 2.23, Kernel 4.8.7 with MuQSS - none of that should matter since it was stable before ...

Seems like I'm overestimating what this card is capable of,

lowering the resolution to 1280x800 solved most of the issues
