Football Manager 2017 [Steam] is the latest refresh of the FM franchise and it has launched again with day-1 Linux support.

I've tested out the demo, since the developers didn't want to give me a review copy. Sadly, it seems that the game has no audio on Linux. Other than that, it seems to work okay.
Update: It seems the game isn't meant to have any audio unless you're in a 3D match. I'm surprised really, as some sort of music of ambient sound would have made it a far more pleasant experience, but I guess that's what our own music is for.

It's quite an overwhelming game, tons and tons of options available to you and it seems quite daunting. You have to manage player contracts, arrange meetings, sort out player training and so on. I do like that I could pick any team I wanted, even my local team.

I'm much more a fan of games like FIFA, over the spreadsheet management games like this, so it likely won't get any further thoughts from me.

I may check out the demo. I'm not a football fan but the odds of Eastside Hockey manager ever getting a Linux port is looking very slim so it could soothe that craving.

Mostly Negative (1,482 reviews)
Release Date: 4 Nov, 2016

It seems now we have more games coming to Linux, we also have the bad ones. Fair enough.

Do you have any ideas why the game isn't available in Germany? I can recall to have read about that in the past but I can't recall. Anyway, I'm not interested in buying it but I'd like to know what is the cause of it.

I don't think they have the rights to be able to do it in certain countries.

The only thing I recall was not having the German national team available due to licensing or something. But I thought that it used to be available, like in for sale, in Germany in the past. Or maybe we're talking about something else?

If you read the negative reviews, most of them are from existing fans.

The number one reason isn't because it's bad but because they don't see that it's worth it to upgrade from FM2016 since they feel that in terms of features, there isn't much new stuff. They feel that it's not worth it for the price as such for an upgrade.

Other than that, the game is comparable to FM2016.

The number two reason is because a Chinese language pack was promised but wasn't made available at release. So Chinese fans are up in arms.

While it's not for me, I think it's great that they're continuing to release on Linux. Top rate developer. If they produced any other games, which I was more interested in, they'd get my money for sure.

Nice to have it for Linux!

Although, I must admit that I felt a little shocked to see this at the top of steam "sellers-list", while Deus Ex is not even on the first page.

I guess I just can't get over the fact that a game like a "football manager", is *NOT* a small special interest gaming niché, only drawing the attention of a handful of harder-than-hardcore football fans. Lol.

Because of the negative reviews, Football Manager 2017 and Football Manager Touch 2017 was sold as a bundle.
if you pre- purchase Football Manager 2017 you got Football Manager Touch 2017 for FREE!

My experience on Linux is very bad on this game. Actually I Cannot even start it since it takes all over my 2x Monitors and I am not able to configure the game.
I have posted this problem on steam forums but I guess no one cares about it ><

Well, for me the upgrade was more than welcome.

With all previous FM, which had much worse 3D match graphics, the fps with the free drivers (AMD 7870 and RX 480 paired with an AMD FX 8150 and an AMD FX 8370) were at about 20 fps (fps were the same at high and at low graphics settings). Now with this new 3D engine, graphics are much much better (SI Games are probably now using OpenGL 3 and therefore using another codepath of the mesa driver) and fps get to stable 60 fps (capped as per my preference of settings) with all graphics settings maxed out without sweating a drop...

Not that graphics matter that much in a FM style of games but watching the game at low fps is not enjoyable.
