Football Manager 2017 [Steam] is the latest refresh of the FM franchise and it has launched again with day-1 Linux support.
I've tested out the demo, since the developers didn't want to give me a review copy. Sadly, it seems that the game has no audio on Linux. Other than that, it seems to work okay.
Update: It seems the game isn't meant to have any audio unless you're in a 3D match. I'm surprised really, as some sort of music of ambient sound would have made it a far more pleasant experience, but I guess that's what our own music is for.
It's quite an overwhelming game, tons and tons of options available to you and it seems quite daunting. You have to manage player contracts, arrange meetings, sort out player training and so on. I do like that I could pick any team I wanted, even my local team.
I'm much more a fan of games like FIFA, over the spreadsheet management games like this, so it likely won't get any further thoughts from me.
About the game

You’ll also deal with real football media, solve player-happiness problems and the board will watch your every move.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
One of my favorite series but sadly new one with bad reviews. So Im stay for now with old 2016 version. Good to see they still releasing Linux version. They start in 2014, next 2015, 2016 and now 2017. This is 4 release with Linux support, nice.
Worth add, they also release for Linux Football Manager 2017 TOUCH.
New 3d mach looking very good, but Im still prefer old 2D view :D :D

The reviews on steam were bad, but the main reason is that most Football Manager sales are done in China. The devs talked about a Chinese version that did not came out when the game got released. They downvoted it to death, and now people think it's a bad game, but it's actually along the 2016 version, the best football managing game ever released on pc. ;'(

The one and only football manager simulator is Bundesliga Manager Professional from 1991 :)

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTDo you have any ideas why the game isn't available in Germany? I can recall to have read about that in the past but I can't recall. Anyway, I'm not interested in buying it but I'd like to know what is the cause of it.
EA still holds the exclusiv rights to german Bundesliga despite not releasing any own football manager.

The game has definitly sound! Its just not in the management part. In the live match there is plenty of it.
For the 2017 version they reworked the match engine. The football simulation of the live match is based on the decisions of every player on the field, his abilities, personality, managers orders, match fitness etc. Every decision, of every player, with or without ball, leads to new situations, which trigger new decisions... With the 2017 version they doubled the number of decisions, which should lead to a better, more natural simulation of the game.
Thats whats promised. After Deus Ex, I will try it out much more...
The reason why its not availlable in Germany is EA Sports. They got exclusive license for german football management games. But thats ok. German Football leagues are completely accurate in the game. For real names in the national team you just have to change one file. Even german language is availlable via fan-patch if you really must have it..

But that was a lottery, not a simulation :-)

The full game's too much for me so I bought the Touch version last time. Despite trying hard to keep my team personnel up to date the "transfer market" is proving too difficult so I'll probably get the new Touch instead!
I'm hoping I'll notice the "improvements" in the match engine because the 2016 variety had some annoyances.
