Gunmetal Arcadia Zero [Steam] from J. Kyle Pittman (Super Win the Game) and Minor Key Games (Slayer Shock) is now available on Steam for Linux.

It previously released to other stores, but it's now made its way onto Steam as well.

While I'm not a massive fan of retro-looking games anymore, I have to admit they have done fantastic work on the style of it. They have the retro vibe completely nailed down to the point of tempting me to give it a go sometime.

You can actually buy it as part of the "Minor Key Games Complete Collection", not a bad deal considering all games in that bundle support Linux!

About the game
Unrest brews in the city of Arcadia, and a monstrous enemy approaches. As the young elf Vireo, you will heed the call of adventure: choose a weapon, choose a side, and rise to be the hero your city needs. Gunmetal Arcadia Zero features classic platformer action and world-class CRT simulation technology that evokes the aesthetics of past generations.

From developer J. Kyle Pittman (Super Win the Game) and Minor Key Games (Slayer Shock) comes Gunmetal Arcadia Zero, an all-new action-adventure platformer drenched in glowing retro goodness. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I guess I'll have to give it a go some day, despite my dislike of the whole NES experience. At least some of the distortion shaders can be disabled. As a platformer this should be pretty good.

Has Nintendo tried to sue them yet? I ask because holy **** does that look like a copy & paste of Zelda 2, right down to the color palette and attack animations. That's not to say it's a bad thing. I'm one of the wacky people out there that really liked Zelda 2.

You can't sue because a game uses a similar colour choice or animations. The name, the world and all the art is entirely original. It's obviously inspired by such games, since it's a retro throwback, but it's far from a copy of Zelda.

Well yeah, I was referring to purely the look of the game, I have no clue about story and such. I was just taken aback by how much the game looks like Zelda 2. I guess I'm surprised that someone liked Zelda 2 enough to make a game that looks so nearly identical to it, as Zelda 2 is kind of the red headed step child of the series.

For the price I can hardly turn it down; maybe I'll check it out once I'm done revisiting Rogue Legacy ^^

I feel like carving out old niches is what that Pittman lad does best :P

If you read Kyle's blog he explicitly writes about where he got his inspiration from.
And yes, he seems to be a big Zelda 2 fan. ;)
