Minecraft 1.11 is now available which is the 'Exploration Update' aimed at making the world more interesting. They also showed off the new Minecraft launcher running on Linux recently.

The new version brings in the Cartographer, a new villager who will provide you with maps. It also brings in the Illagers, the evil cousins of the Villagers. Adds in the Vex, a hostile mob spawned by some of the Illager. Also added in are the new Llamas, which are amusing when they spit at Wolves.

One of their newer developers recently showed off the new Minecraft launcher running on Linux too:

I am not sold on their new launcher. But I might end up using it, after all.

It also looks like they added some item for respawn or falling damage prevention?

Alas, it does not seem to be available for linux, yet. The linux version is still at 1.10.2.
