Darksiders was supposed to come out for Linux a long time ago and never happened. The developers haven't forgotten about it, but it seems the issues are proving difficult to fix and they have been busy.

'Darksiders Warmastered Edition' just launched and the inevitable happened; someone posted on their Steam forum asking about Linux.

From their wording, honestly, it sounds rather unlikely that it will ever come (link):
MegalomaniacNGWe tried to pick up work on the Linux port but we couldnt fix the remaining issues it had. Instead we focused on Warmastered Edition. Maybe Warmastered Edition will get a Linux port one day. I am sorry for this but I cant tell you anything better right now.

Part of the problem is that the original person in charge of the port left the developer, so it got put further down their list.

That's one title I'm putting firmly in my 'forget me' pile, sadly.

Thanks Khudsa for posting it in our forum. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Would be interesting what kind of issues they experience with the port in a bit more detail. Seriously, with all the issues even really experienced porting studios as Feral describe, it's not unexpected with lesser experienced porters to find cases they can't solve. With our graphics stack still lacking (and we KNOW it) we can't even complain if some find it too-much-effort ...

Though, I can't say I'm personally sad, because I never understood this kind of games / they never were fun to me, but it's sad for one more title not releasing on linux which may have brought joy to a lot of linux gamers.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLNever buy games when Linux port is not releasing YET. Vote wallet, buy only games with Linux support.

A basic extension of the 'Never pre-order' rule, as if the port is not out yet your are basically doing just that.

Or, to paraphrase Aesop:

"Don't count your penguins before they're hatched."

:D

The old version (DirectX9) works under latest versions of WINE: I think this could be a perfect candidate for a wrapped VirtualProgramming port.

EDIT: fixed some typos

VirtualProgramming doesn't do Wine wraps. They use their own porting technology. On the other hand, I am sure that they could do a port of Darksiders just fine if somebody actually asked them to.

I said that because the game works already well under WINE, it will for sure work well (better?) as an eON wrapped port. Of course a native port will be the best, but better a wrapped port than nothing.

Quoting: Comandante oardoI tried to run this game though winE, and the cinematics didn't work...
This does the trick, with GOG version:

winetricks d3dx9_36 devenum quartz amstream wmp10

I still have UI flickering from time to time and X360 gamepad support is broken.

Quoting: neowiz73worse case, they could just wine wrap it. I'd be fine with that. this would be a good candidate for it. along with Darksiders II.

If you are thinking of having a Wine-wrapped Warmastered Edition, that won't happen because Wine barely supports DX11.

There was a time when wine didn't support dx9 at all, then *poof*, it did, and pretty well.

True :) However DX11 is a different beast entirely but every release we get a bit closer to proper DX11 support :)

I'm not sure how I got this game, if it was part of a bundle or if I just bought it on sale, but it plays pretty well using gallium-nine. I didn't go back to it however, as I was having trouble getting it to recognise my old gamepad. I haven't tried it since I got the steampad, so I really should try loading it up again...

I do hope they can fix the issues and bring it natively, sounds like they did most of the work. Sad to let it got to waste.

In other words, they dont understand the code than the previous person working on it left, so they cant fix it.
