Just a word of warning, the latest Steam Client Beta has partially broken the downloading and updating of games on Linux.

I noticed it yesterday, as all my games repeatedly said "disk write error", even though the drive has been working perfectly with everything else. I checked on github, and it seems others are having this issue too.

You can force them to eventually download by repeatedly telling it to, and it may eventually do it, but it's damn annoying.

Hopefully Valve can get out a quick fix. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I've not had that problem so far, but maybe it has to do with this general change from the last patch list:

"Improved download and patching speeds when games are installed to a traditional non-SSD hard drive"

Entirely possible, or the recent fix for another file-system, do you have your Steam games on an SSD? If so, that's probably why you don't see it.

I have a standard HDD for installed games, but it's an old NTFS partition (cough, need to change that..), so maybe that's the difference?

I had "disk write error" with Stardew Waley but as I remembered the cause was case sensitivity it was looking steamapps folder but my system had SteamApps folder so I symlinked it and all worked. I guess here can be same case but only with different folder.

I'm using a standard HDD formatted to EXT4, I also opted out of the Beta & the error is still happening, hopefully they can get it sorted asap.

I had that problem too, lmants. I figured it was my btrfs steam partition being screwy, so I ended up installing it to my larger ext4 partition instead. Now that I look into it, they do have different cases for "SteamApps".

In other news, I think they fixed the 2FA for mobile steam guard users. I no longer have to enter a security code every time I start steam on my PC.

Well, I'm sure it'll happen to my Ext4 drive. On the plus side, however,

1. I'm in the middle of Mad Max and probably will be for at least a day or three more;

2. I won't have to be confronted with any more humongous Payday 2 updates at startup.

I'm sure Steam will get it fixed up sometime before the sun burns out. ;)

This would be one of the many reasons Valve does not recommend people use the beta version if you want stability.

Got this Error too with EXT4 HDD and Beta Client. With Stable Client works now.
