This isn't exactly surprising, but Razer have joined The Khronos Group to back open standards. While not surprising, it's still awesome news.
From the Khronos website:
More and more developers and hardware makers are doing pushes towards opening up and this is yet another sign of things to come.
Why is it not surprising? Razer make Virtual Reality headsets and OSVR (what Razer headsets use for their VR) is now officially supported on Steam, so it wasn't hard to see something like this coming.
From the Khronos website:
QuoteThe Khronos Group is proud to announce that Razer has joined as a Contributor Member. Razer is a world leader in connected devices and software for gamers. Its award-winning design and technology span systems, peripherals, audio and wearable technologies. Razer co-founded OSVR, an open-source platform that integrates VR, AR and mixed reality hardware and software APIs that support a universal VR ecosystem.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
A new open standard would be ideal for controlling lighting systems in games, like there is the Chroma SDK for Razer's Chroma keyboards and mice... but it's for Windows only. It would be brilliant if one day there was one SDK, for any platform, regardless of brand.

this is great news. Their stuff is all overpriced, but they've saved my gaming life, having left handed mice (dat lefty naga, doe) which work flawlessly under Linux..

Unless I am missing something here they dont "make" them they "assemble" them using other companies hardware - much like dell, so that's not any reason to join a hardware manufactures standardisation group.
This in contrast to OSVR - which is why that was mentioned in the article ( of course I'm not the author but I am guessing that is why ;) )

Last time I bought a new mouse I bought a Roccat, at the time they were nearly the only ones who fully supported Linux. I guess I might look at the Razer ones in the future too, though I'm not a big fan of those green LEDs they all have.

Make drivers and software for Linux too. That'll convince me to buy from them again.
