This isn't exactly surprising, but Razer have joined The Khronos Group to back open standards. While not surprising, it's still awesome news.
From the Khronos website:
More and more developers and hardware makers are doing pushes towards opening up and this is yet another sign of things to come.
Why is it not surprising? Razer make Virtual Reality headsets and OSVR (what Razer headsets use for their VR) is now officially supported on Steam, so it wasn't hard to see something like this coming.
From the Khronos website:
QuoteThe Khronos Group is proud to announce that Razer has joined as a Contributor Member. Razer is a world leader in connected devices and software for gamers. Its award-winning design and technology span systems, peripherals, audio and wearable technologies. Razer co-founded OSVR, an open-source platform that integrates VR, AR and mixed reality hardware and software APIs that support a universal VR ecosystem.

There is a project to create Linux support for Razer products. Has anybody tried these drivers?

Quoting: FredOThere is a project to create Linux support for Razer products. Has anybody tried these drivers?Yes, and there's also a front-end for its daemon: https://github.com/lah7/polychromatic (which is my contribution back)

They work great with my 3 Razer products -- BlackWidow Chroma, Mamba TE and the Firefly. If it wasn't for these drivers, I wouldn't have bought Razer stuff to use under Linux.
The author of these drivers even got free stuff from Razer at one point as their way of saying thanks.

One more company sees the writing on the wall and moves to join the winning side. More length to our lever. Another kid on our side of the seesaw.
