Nvidia have pushed out three new driver updates today. One for their latest stable branch and two for older hardware.
375.26: here

In most cases you will want the 375.26 driver, unless you have pretty old hardware. It's primarily a bug-fix release with it fixing regressions.
The 340.101 and 304.134 releases aimed at older cards add support for xorg-server 1.19 as well as fix a bug in the nvidia-installer. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Can anyone confirm this actually fixes the performance problems with 375.20? I see several regression fixes mentioned in the release notes, but nothing that seems relevant.

did not have any performance issues with 375.20 so i can't really help in that matter.
installed the driver though, will start testing
edit: Deus Ex runs same as before. pretty bad performance in places :(

Deus Ex now seems to work properly (I loaded up the game, but didn't play for long while testing). I also opened up 20 instances of glxgears without issue, so I think they've addressed the big bug 375.20 introduced, but whether they've fixed all the regressions remains to be seen.

thx for reporting Liam. Installed and they seem to be working ok at first glance. Sadly those didn't help with one of the apps I use at work (Blackmagic Fusion namely), so for me 368 was the last really workable driver. Damn.
