OBS Studio 17.0.0 [github, Official Site] has been released and it's a pretty fun one. It now has a feature that allows you to capture a snapshot of a specific time before hitting a hotkey.
That's an awesome feature, as it can be useful for capturing those "oh my god!" moments from livestreams and general recording.
OBS Studio isn't just for capturing games, it can be used for capturing anything on your screen. So it can be useful for doing all sorts of fun video content directly on Linux.
What makes it incredibly useful, is the ability to have multiple switchable scenes full of different video and audio sources.
General changes:
- Added a replay buffer feature. The replay buffer is available in just simple output mode (for now, will add it to advanced output mode later), and allows the user to create snapshot recordings (via hotkey) of a specific amount of time prior to triggering the hotkey.
- Added saturation and hue shift to color correction filter
- Added import/export options for scene collections and profiles
- Added the ability to copy and paste scene item transforms
- Added options to the output timer tool to start the output timers every time recording/streaming is started
- Increased maximum number of possible audio tracks to 6 (up from 4), allowing more advanced audio splitting
- Fixed a bug where semi-transparent images would not look right when filters were applied
- Fixed a bug where Y800 (grayscale) video devices would come out as red
- Fixed a freeze when reordering filters
- Fixed a X11-related memory leak in certain cases (causing memory to slowly continue to allocate memory until exhausted)
Such a fantastic bit of open source software we at GOL use every week and it's great to see it get such awesome features.

Quoting: SnowdrakeWhile it would be somewhat nice for GeForce Experience to arrive on Linux, what I really want to see is for nvidia-settings to be as good as the Nvidia control panel in Windows.Quote- Added a replay buffer feature. hope you dont really want that mess and bloat that windows version has.
nvidia-settings on linux is so much better, but i agree we could use some more options there.

Quoting: XpanderAgreed, nvidia-settings is much more confortable than nvidia's windows control panel (it's not as messy as amd's radeon windows control panel tho) but unfortunatelly it hasn't received new features for quite a long time.Quoting: AimelaWhile it would be somewhat nice for GeForce Experience to arrive on Linux, what I really want to see is for nvidia-settings to be as good as the Nvidia control panel in Windows.

OBS is super great software! I discovered it a couple years ago when I was irritated with xSplit. It was such a relief to find. I should donate.
