Sometimes I get sent really interesting things to cover and sometimes I get sent some really basic, terrible stuff. Porradaria Upgrade [Steam] & Porradaria 2: Pagode of the Night [Steam] are two that firmly sit in the terrible pile.

Note: The developer sent it keys for both games.

I should state for the record that I like retro visuals and platformers, so this isn't a case of it just "not being for me". I've played a shit-ton of platformers in all my years, especially since I grew up with them.

image

It's like someone took some stock tiles from a "make it yourself retro games package", threw in a basic platformer movement and attack system and slapped a price on them both. That's as accurate as I can be in describing them.

The actual platforming aspect is rudimentary at best, to the point where it just becomes annoying. If you aren't in the exact place you need to be at the end of the path, your jump will fail 100% of the time and you will fall to your death, forcing you to restart. You can literally run to the end of the path, see that your character is still firmly on it, but the jump won't work. There's needing patience and accuracy and then there's just poor mechanics.

Mix the terrible platforming element with the obnoxious repeating music tracks and you have an easy way to annoy me. It seems each level has one single very short track that just loops forever. My ears are annoyed at me.

image

The combat is, as you would expect, also very basic. You can literally hop around and spam an attack button and that's pretty much job done. Enemy attacks never change their set path either, so it's not even fun to repeat any part of it.

Neither of them have any redeeming qualities and I really do wonder why they are on Steam. I get that they are throwbacks and essentially a parody of retro games, but come on. If you long for retro games, go play some actual retro games (there's plenty of them), not poorly made imitations with a price tag.

Porradaria 2: Pagode of the Night is more of the same, re-uses some of the same tiles and characters and is just more of the same bollocks. Although the second game does have a £3.99 DLC for a game with only 6 reviews, wow.

They both claim to have full controller support, but they didn't detect my Steam Controller at all. I even tried with SC Controller and setting it to a basic Xbox 360 controller and it still wasn't detected. I also tried my pretty standard Logitech F310 which didn't work either, so it looks like gamepad support on Linux is broken.

Honestly, they are the kind of games I made in a single week when I used to fool around with "The Games Factory" (an old point and click games maker) when I was in my early teens.

It actually amazes me that these games passed Greenlight, considering both have hardly any reviews. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Regarding the controller support...

It's stated in the game pages and in the FAQs that both games doesn't support game pads on Linux right now.
However, I'm already looking at this issue with the help of this great community, which I'm really grateful for your help, and I hope to see things fixed in the next year.

If you want to check the FAQs, both links for each game are below.

To confirm something publicly: I deleted the developers comment on here, since they don't understand that I review games across two different Steam accounts (one of them is 100% private only two people know about).

I wanted to save them from a PR disaster calling me out on idiotic things because I really dislike the game, but here it is: https://twitter.com/CleanWaterDev/status/808721389385609216

To re-iterate, a lot of my game time in various games is done on a 100% private account because I get hassled for news on my main account.

Edit: What's hilarious, is that the first screenshot shown in the article is from after you get the "map" the achievement is supposed to give you. Oh and this is the map...

I realized that I have this game from a bundle and thought about giving it a try and posting a review on steam. It is odd that so many of the reviews are negative but they don't show up on the overall steam score. C'est la vie, I won't waste my time with it especially w/o controller support. :(

Quoting: GuestBut it was Depeoloped with love and tender care for you.

Good grief, what a low effort piece of shit.

Your best argument to defend the idea that this game is a low effort piece of shit is a typo in the trailer? Ok then.

1 - "Them" not, "him". I work alone, I'm Batman! Tata tata tata tata Batman! Tata tata tata tata...
2 - The only one doing a PR disaster about these games here is YOU.
3 - I don't need to post it here again, you already did it. Many thanks for your kindness. ^_^

If showing the "map" is your best shot to defend the game is a crap, you are wasting your time. Anyone who played the game knows the true meaning of this map. Plus, if you play the DLC, a shocking revelation about the very same map is made.

I'm happy to know you already bought the game in a bundle! Many thanks for your support.

About the new review system... Yes, I agree with you. There's also a lot of developers unsatisfied with this new system too, but it's something up to Valve now. (I LOVE YOU Valve! 100% positive reviews!!! :D )

About the controllers issue. This is something that I already contacted the Engine support about. I'm also doing some research of my own to solve this issue. It's a race now to see who is going to solve it first. The customer ends winning in any case. And no, I don't make broken promises. Trust me, I'm The Doctor! Geronimooooooooooooooooo...

LiamD, many thanks for letting me defend myself here. You are showing that you are a really mature and professional person. :D

Merry Christmas to everyone!

You are free to "defend yourself" of course, I just took issue with you trying to muddy my name using false accusations. In you defence, you weren't aware I use two Steam accounts, which is why I came back and actually posted your Twitter message here for clarity.

You claimed I hadn't even played it, as I didn't have an achievement everyone should get. As I said on Twitter the achievements don't seem to work (I didn't know I was supposed to get one there, because you know, nothing happened). The whole point of me showing a screenshot I took of the map was to show you that I did, in fact, have the map.

Short of doing a video of me running through it to show you, I don't know how else to get that across to you. I'm not going to do that anyway, because I really don't want to play it again.

You are welcome to post of course, but don't claim I don't play something I've written about because an achievement doesn't exist on my previously public (now semi-private) Steam account.

Dear Mr. Liam Dawe,

I really respect your opinion about my games. The same way I often heard positive feedback, I'm also used to receive negative ones. You don't need to play them if you don't like them.

However, you are a member of the media. The media possess an immense power. The media can change the fate of persons with just a few lines, it can destroy someone's entire work with just a few lines.

We're living modern days, nobody have free time to check things by themselves, they will just read what the media says and take it for granted. Also, anyone who is coming here to read this article is your follower. They are YOUR followers, not mine. They will blindly believe on what YOU say, not me.

To make things worse, you broke all my arguments with pure luck. I tested the game before the DLC release on both OS, and checked that the achievements were working perfectly. After what you said, I checked it again of course, and they are indeed not working anymore after the updates in the Steam Client. Again, people here will blindly believe in YOU, not me. Even this issue being related to the engine I used to develop these games, and not being my fault.

With that said, YOU HAVE THE DUTY to make an actual review of the games you play, and not a typical review made by someone who just turned on the game to get the Steam Cards and then relieves their stress with toxic baseless destructive comments about someone else's unknown work.

You said to me in the private messages to not give up developing games, this was really sarcastic from your side. Do you honestly believe that after this review, someone will ever care to take a look at Porradaria 3 Greenlight's page?

Even if I can manage to develop a game with the same quality of something like Bloodstained Ritual of the Night solely alone with $0,00 budget (the same conditions that I always worked), you already pumped the trolls toxicity level to 100%. Yes, I'm ready to be a shit throwing target after this critical hit you did to me right before Christmas.

The Ninja won't die in the third sequel anymore, you killed him before that. Vladmirson will never unleash the true power of the three Celestial Knights in the spin off, he's also dead now. Swordsman's son will never fly with his pink wings in the new trilogy, he was killed even before his birth, he was aborted by you.

The only thing capable of saving this franchise now would be a Christmas miracle, but I honestly don't believe in such a thing.

I knew I lost the war at the moment I saw the title of you article. I doubt someone even cared to read what I wrote here just now. My defense attempts were all in vain.

Even so, I'm happy. I lived my life as a developer the way I wanted. I bravely broke all the standards the industry constructed in all these years. Even completely alone and with no resources, I fought hard to pursue my dreams. I can say I have no regrets.

This is a farewell for now, but you still will hear of me again.

Even if there is only ONE SINGLE PERSON willing to play those games on Linux, I will try my best to deliver the promise I did to offer gamepad support, and to fix those achievements bug. Even if the engine support don't collaborate anymore, I will find a way to fix it myself. I will keep trying until the day I can do it, or until I die! Why? Because that's my job.

I really, really hope that after this incident, you become a better person, a better professional and a better reviewer.

I won't reply anything else here anymore. Despite knowing the fact that this won't change anything, I'm taking care of more urgent matters right now.

Yours sincerely,
Alysson L. Neto

You made two rubbish games and got a rubbish review, it's time to get over it.

My comment in the PM about not giving up was not in any way sarcastic. Don't give up if you enjoy doing it, but learn to make better games.

Better games get better reviews. It's as simple as that, giving me free keys does not entitle you to a good review. I write honestly as I see it.

Play more well-received platformers, look at their mechanics and see just how much better they are. Take inspiration from them.

It's not luck if something breaks, it's a bug. However, to make a baseless claim that I haven't even played the game when I clearly have I won't put up with. Like you said, you have now gone back and tested yourself and I am correct, they are broken.

It's not blindly believing what I write, when you even confirmed to me literally right there that I am actually right. You said that twice about people blindly believing, when I was 100% correct about what I said.

QuoteI really, really hope that after this incident, you become a better person, a better professional and a better reviewer.
Grow up. Learn what criticism is and stop blaming me because you were wrong and chose to make baseless accusations against me apparently not playing it when I obviously did.

Your whole comment and attitude is sad and almost childlike that you fail to see criticism for what it is. Criticism of your games is not an attack, stop acting like it is.
