Note: The Linux demo is currently Steam-only.
The game will release tomorrow, so it's a good time to see if it's your thing or not.
To my delight, the game works perfectly with my two monitors. It displays on my primary monitor and in the correct resolution too. Bonus points for not annoying me with having to screw around with that.
Performance wise on max settings with my 980ti it has been giving acceptable framerates. It started off well above 100FPS, but when you get into the gameplay it drops down to around 90FPS.
I'm damn impressed, as someone who played Commandos I really enjoyed the gameplay and this game is a welcome addition to our selection!
After the played the demo I'm really excited to pick up and play the full game, I think this will be a good one to livestream.
Check it out and tell me what you think.
About the game (Official desc)
Shadow Tactics is a hardcore tactical stealth game set in Japan around the Edo period.
Take control of a team of deadly specialists and sneak in the shadows between dozens of enemies. Choose your approach when infiltrating mighty castles, snowy mountain monasteries or hidden forest camps. Set traps, poison your opponents or completely avoid enemy contact.
The group is composed of very different personalities. Working together as a team seems impossible at first. Yet over the course of many missions, trust is won and friendships are made. The characters develop their own dynamic and each member will have to face their own personal demons.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
The performance is not good, but acceptable. With Mesa 13 and mesa_glthread I get between 25-55 fps on a Radeon HD 7870. When zoomed out it's usually about 30 fps. The impact of mesa_glthread is not as great as in Borderlands but it helps a lot to achieve a playable framerate.
But the game is heavily CPU bound on Mesa: One core is constantly at 100% and with 3,4 GHz instead of 4 GHz the framerate drops noticeably (I guess about 25%).

I bought the GOG version. Audio doesn't work for me. The output when starting the game from console just says:
$ ./start.sh
Running Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
Set current directory to /home/ivan/GOG Games/Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun/game
Found path: /home/ivan/GOG Games/Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun/game/Shadow Tactics
Mono path[0] = '/home/ivan/GOG Games/Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun/game/Shadow Tactics_Data/Managed'
Mono path[1] = '/home/ivan/GOG Games/Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun/game/Shadow Tactics_Data/Mono'
Mono config path = '/home/ivan/GOG Games/Shadow Tactics Blades of the Shogun/game/Shadow Tactics_Data/Mono/etc'
displaymanager : xrandr version warning. 1.5
client has 4 screens
displaymanager screen (0)(DP-4): 3840 x 2160
Using libudev for joystick management
Importing game controller configs
I really dislike mono games. Sure, mono makes the devs' job easier for porting, but mono is so unreliable in my experience. 50% of the mono games I bought, either through steam or gog, are various problems, most often with missing audio. While other mono games work just fine (The Dwarves).
I'm deeply concerned with the number of new games coming out recently that rely on mono.
And it crashed...
Right after the first mission, when the shogun summons you and the cutscene ends, the game crashed:
./start.sh: line 16: 27212 Segmentation fault (core dumped) ./"Shadow Tactics"
UPDATE:
Turns out I was missing one of the 32bit pulseaudio libraries. Since I installed it, all has been fine. Looks like my beef is with 32bit games more than it is with mono games.

Just bought the Steam version, and as far as I can tell (just played the tutorial) it works just fine with my settings (Ubuntu 16.04, i5 6600K, Nvidia 1060 6G, proprietary drivers 375.20). Not a cheap game, but it seems to be a very good one ! :)

Quoting: chepatiI bought the GOG version. Audio doesn't work for me.
Could be a known bug related to missing pulseaudio and some lingering pulse packages installed. A number of Unity games are affected by it if they are using fmod.

great great game, playing it since 3 days, it works very well on my pc (i5 6600K, GTX 1060 6G 375.20 driver, 16go ddr4, xubuntu 16.10), I had only one graphic bug when loading. immersive (japan lyrics), hard, nice graphics and gamepad support, old school (commando, robin hood like), hours of gaming, go for it ! I don't regret my spent of money (they deserve it).
ps: sorry for my froggy english ;-)
