The GOG winter sale has begun, you can get Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition free

I sent an e-mail to the author of GNU/Linux installer script for Neverwinter Nights. It looks like the Windows installer's version has been changed and number of files has been decreased. As I read the script, updating the script is not a big deal but out of my competence...

So this is more or less as I predicted in the previous article. ^_^

Either that or simply more deals get added while keeping the old ones. GOG has adopted that method before although I can't be sure.

Nice of them to give away NWN. It's an old game, but in some regards I still consider it the best game ever made. No other game ever came with such complete modding support. I lost count how many hours I spent in the game, really.

It was also one of the very, VERY few games to release -natively- for Linux back in the days and thus was absolutely groundbreaking for out platform. The "Bah, it's a Windows game!" naysayers here really have no clue what game they are bashing here.

I still have an ancient copy of this game squirreled away on my hard drive that I installed many, many years ago when I was still running Gentoo. I haven't started it up in quite some time, so I don't even know if it still works on my set-up, but you're absolutely right that it was one of the first commercially available games that supported Linux.

Also as a point of trivia, it was originally supposed to be just a toolkit, and all the content was to be 100% user created, but BioWare decided that it wouldn't sell without a pre-made campaign, so they slapped one together just before release. I always wanted to delve into making my own modules, but I just never took the time to learn.

As has been pointed out by several people, it has a linux native version that was done by Bioware. It wasn't done quite right. Basically I think they were guilted into providing the port because they had promised one all the way up to release. However, kind of like we see sometimes these days, release day came and went without the linux version. Bioware wouldn't say anything about the status of a linux port or if it was still happening. This may have been the only game I preordered in my entire life, and it was based on the promise of linux support.

I threw a colossal hissy fit on their forums and basically ranted and raved until another user on there offered to buy my copy for full price (which I happily accepted). I guess I should give them credit for not locking my threads and banning my account.

I believe the port was finally released 6-9 months later. It wasn't a very smooth installation process (I think linux users were expected to copy the files from a windows install?) and when patches came they were usually late for linux and, again, were not the easiest things to install. I believe the installer that is out there now was done by third party community people. I was so spiteful toward Bioware that I didn't end up getting the game until 4 or 5 years ago and I have yet to actually play through it.

It's native and done a long time ago.

It's outdated.Because current GOG version has one .bin file,not two.

My thoughts are similar.. Checked at http://wiki.dotslashplay.it/en/games/neverwinter-nights and it looks pretty straightforward, yet i can't be bothered with that kind business much no longer. This game works right on and 100% through Wine and am enjoying it!

Got Викторъ Вранъ (Victor Vran) long time ago. And since then I'm patiently waiting for Witcher 3. 'Till it hit the shelf, I'm in hibernation (for GOG that is).
