Croteam have updated The Talos Principle [Steam] today to move the last beta build over to the stable release.

Changelog:
New features:
- Added support for latest AMD and nVidia cards.

Improvements:
- Improved stability and performance on Vulkan API.

Bug fixes:
- Fixed issues with fullscreen rendering on Vulkan on Linux.
- Fixed a rare crash when exiting the game.

If you were previously in the beta, you would have had this already. It's good to know that it was stable enough for everyone to now have it.

I'm hoping they continue to refine their engine with Vulkan, as last we heard they weren't really doing any of the Vulkan multi-threading. Even so, it still runs much better than it did with OpenGL on Linux.

Update: It looks Serious Sam 3 may also get Vulkan soon too as a developer said this:
QuoteSoon, my friends, soon. ;)

It runs just a "bit" better with Vulkan ;-)

OpenGL: 71.8 Ave FPS
Vulkan: 157.2 Ave FPS

Vulkan can't come fast enough to Linux gaming!

Jesus!! Thats one hell of an improvement from just using Vulkan!

And it's not even fully optimized according to one of the engine devs.

I have issues with my NVidia 1050 Ti though... maybe a too new piece of Hardware :D.

Well, I hope this fixes the freezing issue I was having whith the last update.

Do we have to do anything special for it to run on Vulkan instead of OGL?

Benchmark results while recording with 60 FPS video.
Talos game updated at date 12.12.2016 with lastest update for better Vulkan support.

Test results DURING RECORDING VIDEO AT 60 FRAMES/sec:
Average FPS:
OpenGL API: 63.5 FPS
Vulkan API: 95.5 FPS
Vulkan API get over 50,393700787% FPS iprovement.

Test results while NOT RECORDING VIDEO:
OpenGL API: 65.5 FPS
Vulkan API: 122.1 FPS
Vulkan API get over 92,283464567% FPS iprovement.

System specs:
OS: Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit
Mobo: Gigabyte Z170-HD3 DDR3-CF
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K
Graphics: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB/PCIe/SSE2
NVIDIA Driver Version: 367.57
SSD: Samsung PRO 950 M.2 512GB

You can choose the API in the graphics setting in game, or add this command line option:
+gfx_strAPI "VLK"

When you benchmark Talos with Vulkan vs OpenGL make sure the settings used are identical.
Often when you switch the renderer the settings are automatically readjusted.

Well, my first experimentation with Vulkan didn't ended well... hard-lock of the system with a reboot needed after 2 min in game, I will try again latter (and do a proper crash report for Croteam). ^^'

Croteam, one of the few Devs with my respect...
And You know me. I don't respect Devs so easily.

I give them 9 of 10 for three reasons:
* Very good game.
* Linux support from the beggining.
* Playable DEMO (like in the old days).

Yep, same for me on a 1080. I will put it down to poor drivers of NV of late.

Still good to submit a report. If it's the driver, then Croteam is in a much better position to report the actual problem.

From the build number in the title, I'm assuming this is the same as the latest public beta, so it will crash for me as well.

QuoteUpdate: It looks like the Vulkan version may get proper multi-threading soon too. On a post asking about it, a developer said this:
QuoteSoon, my friends, soon.

I thought this was about the OP question, "can we expect BFE to get the same treatment in the near future?"...
It's also located in the Serious Sam 3 forum.

That "Soon, my friends, soon." is about Vulkan on Serious Sam 3, nothing related to multithreading

Btw, Dx11 is still a bit faster on my pc than vulkan. Hopefully on the next beta update that will improve

Yep, total misread on my part, fixed it.

I noticed that Talos Principle is missing on GOG, and then I found this thread. Quite disappointing that developers fell into the trap of Steamworks lock-in.
