It's question time today here on GOL, so sit down and come have a chat. Today I ask a very simple question: what game would literally blow your mind if it came to Linux & SteamOS?

I've asked myself this very same question and while it looks like a simple question, the truth is that it's actually quite difficult to narrow it down.

There's a fair amount of great games we don't have and that's probably a heavy understatement. There's a good 10-20 games I badly want on Linux and narrowing them down was a bit of a task.

I think my all time wish right now would be: Fallout New Vegas.

A game I actually own, as it's one of the left-overs from back when I was dual-booting. I can't bring myself to load up Windows to play it. My Windows hard drive doesn't even fit in my PC case, so it becomes a nuisance to actually load Windows any way now.

Why Fallout New Vegas? I've been a Fallout fan since a young age and I think I've actually played all of them now. I love the world, the style of it and the gameplay is engrossing as hell. It was my favourite of the series by far.

Skyrim works well enough in wine for me, and GTA V was a bit of a let down (it seems like they cut a lot of content to bulk up GTA: Online). I'd be particularly happy if Fallout 4 came to Linux, but 3 or New Vegas would be good too (both have never worked brilliantly in wine for me).

Witcher 3. Not just because it looks to be an amazing game, but also because I think it would be a difficult port.

Half Life 3.
No need to specify why ;)

Honestly at this point I'm over satisfied. Maybe because I'm getting older and have less time but I don't have the feeling that I miss anything important. Much more important for me would be productive software at this point.

But if I have to choose a game... I guess Overwatch would be pretty neat :)

The latest Guilty Gear, hands down. As to why... the best fighting game out there, spent over 10 years of my life on playing that series. I've traveled far and wide (irl) to play that game against others. The only thing seriously bugging me now is the PS3/PS4 it's been released on; if Sony were to prioritize the consumer that would've been fine... but the copy protection is unwieldy and the PS4's UI is more difficult than even the most hardcore console only Linux distributions. Not to mention that the PS4 is just a watered down PC with a lot less RAM.

Battlefield 1 (or Battlefield 4), Battlefield 4 is the only game I'm still dual booting for to play with friends (Sup Com Forged Alliance also but that might be working under Linux somehow). Then I could dump Windows 7 for good ^^

Halo 5.

I would be surprised if it ever got released on Windows, on Linux, I think I would have a mental breakdown because I would no longer be able to tell what is real.

Fallout 4. Both because it would be awesome to have on Linux and because I really don't expect it to happen.

Quoting: PangachatMass Effect trilogy, Dragon Age trilogy, Dark Souls trilogy, Destiny. If this happens, my next ten year is done ;)

I'm surprised I had to look at 8 pages before someone whising for the Dark Souls saga. I haven't played 3 yet and I'm like 85% in 2 and they are one of the few games for wich I still reboot on Windows sometimes. Also japanese developers, I would be very surprised if they cared one bit about Linux, maybe I'm wrong.

On topic, I would love to have most of the AAA games other people mentioned on Linux, but what would totally blown my mind would be EA games on Linux. I simply don't see them making the effort at all.

Heroes of the Storm or Rainbow6Siege would be really nice :)

1. Final Fantasy 6/7/8/9/10/12/13

Yeah, I know; it's not cool to like JRPGs. You're right, I am "the problem." ;)

That being said, I feel really fortunate that I usually enjoy indie games much more than the big "AAA" titles. If you had asked me this question six months ago I would have said:

1. Stardew Valley
2. Undertale

And... that worked out pretty well! :D

I am of course in favor of encouraging the porting of "AAA" games; I bought Tomb Raider and Dawn of War 2 a while ago to support the Linux ports and... I haven't actually played them yet. But whenever we talk about "AAA" titles we have a few people say something like: "I'm sick of crappy indie games; nobody likes those anyway."

Can we please stop that kind of talk? A lot of indie games are good, and a lot of people like them. Insulting the games we have will NOT help get games we don't have.
