It's question time today here on GOL, so sit down and come have a chat. Today I ask a very simple question: what game would literally blow your mind if it came to Linux & SteamOS?

I've asked myself this very same question and while it looks like a simple question, the truth is that it's actually quite difficult to narrow it down.

There's a fair amount of great games we don't have and that's probably a heavy understatement. There's a good 10-20 games I badly want on Linux and narrowing them down was a bit of a task.

I think my all time wish right now would be: Fallout New Vegas.

A game I actually own, as it's one of the left-overs from back when I was dual-booting. I can't bring myself to load up Windows to play it. My Windows hard drive doesn't even fit in my PC case, so it becomes a nuisance to actually load Windows any way now.

Why Fallout New Vegas? I've been a Fallout fan since a young age and I think I've actually played all of them now. I love the world, the style of it and the gameplay is engrossing as hell. It was my favourite of the series by far.

I would say GTA5, it's the last game I played before ditching Windows for good. Before I was dual-booting. And as it is made by Rockstar, by the time we have a GTA in Linux we'll probably have everything else we want!

Elite: Dangerous.
That would really blow my mind. And I think I would never boot into Windows again.

Okay, I would also be interested in Titanfall/Titanfall 2 and any newer Call of Duty. CoD4:Modern Warfare runs well in wine. But Elite would be my absolute favorite.

Funnily enough, this has actually already happened in my case, when Knights of the Old Republic II released on Linux a year and a half ago. I'd very sadly given it up for good when I switched to Linux two years ago (I'd played through it something like 6–8 times, love that game), and then, there it was! I have it on Steam now.

For a game not yet available, hmmm…maybe Age of Empires II. I got it when I was 11 or 12, and spent a few years playing little else—it even helped spark my interest in computer programming as a young teen by getting me to learn how to use map scripts to make my own random maps. I also bought it on Steam when it resurfaced a few years ago with the new expansion and improvements, but that was only a little while before I switched to Linux so I never got to play it much. And it's a Microsoft game, so it really would blow my mind if it was ported.

Anything from Nintendo because not only would they be crossing the console -> PC threshold, but they would also be acknowledging the value of non-Microsoft operating systems and we all know how Japanese game devs feel about that, historically speaking...

Quoting: tmtvlTake a shot every time someone lists more than one game, you'll die instantly.

Also, so many people choosing Fallout 4, that is why LGBTQ people don't feel welcome in video gaming. I'm am disappointed and ashamed that such a homophobic game gets such a warm reception.

Too bad, so sad. Any rational person isn't going to let identity politics determine the value of a game. I wouldn't care if a game has the player reenact historic lynchings, so long as it brings a fun experience to the table.

IMO we have a little bit of everything available for Linux right now EXCEPT for sports games: we need Football (FIFA/PES/whatever), Rugby, Tennis, NFL, NHL, MLB, and so on... That would help SteamOS adoption as well.
