It's question time today here on GOL, so sit down and come have a chat. Today I ask a very simple question: what game would literally blow your mind if it came to Linux & SteamOS?

I've asked myself this very same question and while it looks like a simple question, the truth is that it's actually quite difficult to narrow it down.

There's a fair amount of great games we don't have and that's probably a heavy understatement. There's a good 10-20 games I badly want on Linux and narrowing them down was a bit of a task.

I think my all time wish right now would be: Fallout New Vegas.

A game I actually own, as it's one of the left-overs from back when I was dual-booting. I can't bring myself to load up Windows to play it. My Windows hard drive doesn't even fit in my PC case, so it becomes a nuisance to actually load Windows any way now.

Why Fallout New Vegas? I've been a Fallout fan since a young age and I think I've actually played all of them now. I love the world, the style of it and the gameplay is engrossing as hell. It was my favourite of the series by far.

If I get a second shot, ignoring Bethesda for once, I'd be really curious for Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Such a shame about LoG2. Can't believe indy developers who released the first one didn't bother with the second. Going in the wrong direction!!!

Yes, it is a shame about LoG2 and not bothering to release for Linux. I got it on GOG (DRM free) for Windows, and have played it under Wine, but as a paying customer this is not what I want to do.

Another similar indie title, The Banner Saga - has a Linux version on Steam and GOG. But the follow-up The Banner Saga 2 - is out on Windows and Mac, but not Linux :(

My own status when it comes to Windows games / Linux games....

If I *really* want the game and it is only on Windows, then if the price is good enough, I'll get it. Noting that ideally I get the Windows game DRM free, so I don't have to mess around with Steam client under Wine.
(Recently bought Skyrim: Legendary Edition for £4.24 - steam key for Windows)

If I *really* want the game, but the price is high (e.g. The Witcher 3 GOTY at £20.99 on sale) then I will hold off buying it, until either the Windows version is really cheap or they get around to releasing the Linux version.

Finally, if the game is on Linux then I'm happier to spend more money to get it. So, if that Witcher 3 GOTY was £20.99 AND on Linux - No problem, I'd buy it immediately.

Quoting: reaVerExcept the internet was designed for precisely that. This is not a dating site and most AAA games are not dating sims, we really do not care what gender/sexuality/blablabla the person on the other side of the wire has. Heck, we don't even care what the person looks like.

The person in question has no right to berate people(/gamers/LGBTQ gamers) over their choice of games (and he just did) just because the game somehow managed to offend this delicate snowflake. I don't care whether it's fallout, gta or even rapelay; because what people play is none of his damn business.

Yes, you can be someone else or somewhat propertyless on the internet - but you must not be forced to be, it's your choice, not other people's choice. (And no, the internet was not designed for that (obviously).)

As you can see (on page page 20 in this admitedly long thread) I critized him for what he said as well. But this doesn't make better what you said: "There is no place for LGBTQ people in gaming." There must be a place for all people in gaming, and nobody must be forced to take off his identity at the entrance.

Back to Fallout 4, I still don't know what's homophobic about it, but if it really is, that's something people must be allowed to criticize.

Thank you so much for making this comment. Seeing you say this makes me so happy to be a part of this community (I'm also LGBTQ+, but I don't expect GoL to be an outlet for expressing how I feel--I just believe this place is great and I love talking about GNU/Linux). While I dislike Fallout 4 for reasons unrelated to why tmtvl dislikes the game, I must say that I was disappointed to see how the discussion turned into something berating gender politics instead of actually doing research. Rather than making it seem like he's crying alligator tears (or saying we're "triggered"), it'd be nice to be mature and to just politely tell him why you disagree with his assertion.

After watching the game awards last night and having upcoming games on my mind, what would hugely surprise me is Mass Effect 4. Man, that would kick butt.

Do you all wanna know what I'd find REALLY mindblowing? Not if Rockstar released GTA V on GNU/Linux, but if they saw what the guys who are working on OpenRW (free/libre, cross-platform rewrite of the engine that powers III, Vice City, and San Andreas) were doing, decided that they should get involved, added funding to the project, and started heavily endorsing developers to work on the games, getting them to add patches, make the games look good on high resolutions, include a native multiplayer client, and even start porting their older games to various platforms (BSD, GNU/Linux, maybe AmigaOS!). That would never happen AND that's why it'd completely blow my mind.

Also: I'm amazed by how many responses this article has attained! Woo!

Clearly tells that while IMHO, Linux gaming is in a good state, we're still missing stuff.
