Recently Wine 2.0-rc1 has been released as the next step towards another major stable release of Wine. Additionally, the Wine developers have talked about ongoing Direct3D 11 development and getting Overwatch to work.
First of all, the Wine 2.0-rc1 changelog:
- Bug fix update of the Mono engine.
- Support for IDN name resolution.
- Many more Shader Model 5 operations.
- Still more fixes in the regression tests.
- Various bug fixes.
The more interesting code hasn't yet landed in Wine or Wine-Staging yet, but it has got to the point where Overwatch seems to load up as shown by this screenshot the Wine developers provided:
As seen here.
It sounds like they still have some ways to go, but it's an impressive development. I've seen a lot of people say they would love to be able to play Overwatch on Linux, and using Wine is better for us than people dual-booting.

Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Native or not interested.
Seems harsh I know, I feel wine is a get out for some devs to the point were I feel wine actually hinders in some cases .
Am not saying Wine is bad by any stretch btw, I see wine as a means to run legacy/old programs that no longer have support/developer gone

Not really interested in Overwatch, but good progress on DX11. Will it benefit Witcher 3?

Yep, that's my stance on gaming. No linux version, no money from me. Every major (and minor) game engine has mac and linux version. SDL2 supports every OS. There's no excuse to not have a linux version.

count me in as well
shame Blizzard has absolutely no interest in Linux
But they're part of the khronos group, so I guess there's hope in the long term

Here's hoping they don't ban you for using hacks "cough" I mean Linux.
I would be more interested to get a MOBA/Hero shooter natively on Linux. If I had to put my money on any of them it would be Battleborn. A for being a 2K game and Feral and Aspyr are both chummy with 2K although my money is on Feral and B that game kinda tanked on PC not because it was a bad game, because honestly it's actually a really good looking game in its own right but because of overwatch stealing its thunder. And in all honestly a release on Linux and Mac could very well be what this game needs to find its niche since both platforms are pretty much void of this genre.
And since I've provided reasoning why this can happen from a 2K - Feral PR perspective and given a very decent argument Feral can use when trying to convince 2K. All that is left now is for Liam to pass this request on to Feral :)

Hmmm... I wonder if we can make Blizard to port ALL their games to ALL OS no matter what...
Not a petition something that will hurt their wallets....
So far Overwatch is only playable in Windows and consoles ... so MAC users are on our side :)
I wonder if it is possible to make a "Strong" movement like for example to force everyone to stop their subscription or Stop playing any Blizzard Games for maybe 2-3 Month unless we got a word from Blizzard that ALL their games will be playable to ALL OS ?? :D
Lets say if we throw out a lot of bombs at social media, for example a Banner that says:
7/7/2017
EVERYONE STOPS PLAYING BLIZZARD GAMES
FOR A MONTH
- LETS STOP THE MONOPOLY!!! -
SUPPORT ALL OS
Do you thing Blizzard will get scared if social Media push them over? or they are going to wait for that date 7/7/2017 to see what will happen? :P

Last year there was a push to make Blizzard release linux version of their games, here's the article:
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/tell-blizzard-you-want-linux-support-in-their-games.5066
As for me, I will never play any Blizzard game till they release a linux client.
I know we are only a few who game on linux but still we exist.

Im going to have to agree with the thread consensus here. I shall put my money on native games or those wrapped with eON, but never for use solely in WINE. There are already two perfect ways to get 100% performance for this game, one is baremetal pass through VM and the other is a windows partition.
