Ballistic Overkill [Steam], my favourite online FPS right now has a new update and it's quite a biggy. It includes a big new map and other goodies.
I tried out the new map for a bit earlier and the game has certainly grown in terms of player-size. Within one minute of me setting up my game, the room was nearly full. It hit a new record of 200 people online a few days ago too, so this indie FPS is certainly growing. I'm not surprised, as it's so damn fun.
Check out a video I did of the new map:
I have to say I'm a massive fan of the new map. The sizing feels just right, compared to some maps in the game feeling far too cramped. It does make the gameplay feel much better and I hope they include more bigger maps like this in future.
New stuff
- Huge new map
- Steam Achievements
- Password Protected Servers
- Staying in the Enemy Area will reveal you on the radar
- Russian Language
- New servers in China
- Multi-Thread Improvements
- Bug fixes
- Balance changes
This is one game that is doing Early Access really well. Regular updates and good communication on top of an already fun game! I highly recommend it!

Highly recommended! I had completely forgotten that it was an early access release before being reminded by this article, that's how good it is.

I actually bought this recently based on your previous reviews - gotta say it's a pretty solid FPS. Feels very old-school, but in a good way. Haven't tried the new map yet - with any luck I'll catch you on there and fill you full of digital bullets.

I too really enjoy this. It's a little hit and miss with the steam controller sometimes but great fun. Fits somewhere in between TF2 and CS:Go for me

I didn't manage to enjoy it, i've refunded it on xmas events. I like when if FPS have classes, they have some strong profiles. Here, they are all more or less soldiers with more or less different guns, and a few tricks, so for this i prefer simply no class, only inventory management.

Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion, however I do disagree. The classes feel very different with very different strengths and uses. If you'd like a solid FPS then I'd really recommend giving it another go, especially considering all of the great patches and changes recently.

The game seems nice, just tried it out.
But is there a way to disable mouse acceleration?
I'm baffled a modern game even uses that... and doesn't give me a menu option for it...
I'll have to refund it otherwise :/

I may try it again. I don't play much online FPS, but I used to enjoy ArmA, BF 2142, TF2...

I gotta say every time I see articles here about this game I really like the map designs, and I like how colorful it looks. Most games going for the realistic shooter approach seem afraid to have vibrant colors for some reason and try to dull it out with grayish post-processing effects and fog.

While I'm no developer nor an expert on the matter; there is no mouse acceleration built into the game as far as I know. As long as mouse acceleration is disabled in the system you shouldn't have any issues.
I see in your profile that you use arch:

Does disabling it in X help at all?
