For quite some time Portal 2 [Steam] had broken textures on Linux and Windows. I reported the issue to Valve in April 2016 and they have now finally fixed it.

The bug would turn certain surfaces into a weird golden glass like this:

Changing a config option fixed it as well as turning down some settings, so it was still playable, but annoying. Especially annoying if you had no idea about the tweaks to fix it yourself. It's good to see Valve put in some effort to fix weird bugs like this.

Valve pushed out small Portal 2 patch yesterday and people on github have confirmed it has fixed it.

This, along with Valve fixing a bunch of long-standing Linux issues in the Steam Linux client makes me think Valve has bumped Linux up on their list again. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

On the other hand, this screenshot certainly looks nice from afar (smaller screen or higher resolution). It really looks like a cave :D
Or maybe this is just an adhonorem work and Valve doesn't really care about this game.

I don't remember seeing broken textures the last time I played several months ago.

I had this bug last time I played it but it didn't annoyed me that much actually. Nice to see it's fixed tho

I was playing multiplayer only a few weeks ago and didn't have any missing textures. Maybe only in single player

I've been playing co-op with a friend (his first time) over the past few weeks and noticed it, as recently as last Sunday. I think it was also present in the recording he (on Windows) made of us playing and put on YouTube. As mentioned it didn't affect gameplay at all, but nice to hear they got around to fixing it.

Edit: You can see it in this video of his.

It is kind of a pretty effect, and reminds me of the lava tubes here in Hawaii, which often have bright, reflective surfaces inside when illuminated by flashlight or camera flash. :)
