Vidar [Steam, Official Site] has a lot going for it even this early on, as a fan of 2D RPG, Adventure & Puzzle games it ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Disclosure: Key provided by the developer.

The game was actually funded on Kickstarter, where it gained an impressive sum of $19,530.

The intro has some great voice-over, I love the woman's voice who did it and it really helped set the tone for the game itself.

It has beautiful 2D artwork, a nice sound-track and the story seems quite interesting. You're a stranger and you've found your way to the village of Vidar during a blizzard. Every night, someone dies and you're going to try and stop it.

I won't talk too much about the story, since it would end up spoiling it massively for you. What I like about Vidar is that it doesn't take a long time to progress through the story at the start, it actually moves along quite quickly.

The puzzle design and mechanics are pretty fun too, the first proper puzzle in particular is quite tricky. As you're sliding along ice you need to use a different character to change the position of arrows on the floor to change your direction. It took me a lot of trial and error until I pieced it together. Sadly though, I ran out of time and the game took a rather unexpected turn.

It's actually quite a clever game, as different people will die each time giving you different quests and puzzles. I'm looking forward to seeing who I can save (if anyone, I'm a bit crap) and see what happens later in the game.

It does have two issues though: The first, it advertises full controller support, but my Steam Controller didn't work at all. I've also noticed some background art go on top of the character at times when passing by. I've reported both directly to the developer.

Quite a fan of this one, so I do recommend checking it out.

The developer sent over some quick facts about the game:
* Vidar is one of the few games developed in RPG Maker VX Ace that can be played on Linux!
* Single player, combat-less RPG with a random story every game
* Randomized and very challenging puzzles in five distinct environments
* Playcrafting’s “Best PC / Console Game of the Year” Nominee
* Selected finalist for the Intel Developer Showcase at Austin Games Con, MAGFest, Indie Revolution Expo, and Boston Festival of Indie Games Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.
