Croteam have put up a very nice blog post about all their games and it seems all of them are coming to Linux now and with Vulkan too.

They start off by blabbing on about VR in Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope which we don't have yet, so I won't bore you with the details on that.

The key thing here is that they will be doing what they're calling the "Serious Sam Fusion 2017 update" which all games will get, this big update includes:
- All games now support SteamOS/Linux/OSX!
- Split-screen!
- Full support for all controllers including Steam controller, PS4 gamepads, all older DInput joysticks
- 64bit executables
- Support for Vulkan API (DirectX9 is now being removed; so long and thanks for all the bugs)
- Multithreaded rendering
- Proper multimonitor support
- Borderless window support
- Much better modding support with customizable weapons and items, improved scripting (including better support for scripting networked games)
- And More!

They also confirmed they will be doing The Talos Principle VR, SSVR: The Second Encounter and Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE. Not only that, but Serious Sam 4 is still going to happen too.

Also, as a teaser, Pierre-Loup Griffais from Valve shared this:

Early Serious Sam VR and SteamVR builds are coming along nicely on RADV + AMDGPU stack! pic.twitter.com/fpRQObSqOe

For those who can't put it together, "RADV + AMDGPU" is the open source AMD Vulkan driver for Linux.

Thanks to Malakun and Edwin in our Telegram group for the links.

Croteam are freaking awesome.

Quoting: johndoe86xProper mult-monitor and split-screen? That could potentially mean that two people can play co-op on separate monitors. That would be amazing!

Wow, that's a great idea! Does any game actually support co-op on separate monitors?

Quoting: elbuglioneMaybe it's time to buy HTCVive...

I'm right behind you! As soon as the software support is in place.

Yes, I've been evil... I have been playing The First Encounter in VR... it's absolutely phenomenal. While Last Hope is just a wave shooter (hard as hell though), First Encounter seems like basically the original game, though it's been many years since I played it, it seems they imported the levels into the SS3 Engine and then added VR.

So doing the sequels in VR seems very appropriate and attainable.

With the Exception of the Solus Project, Serious Sam: The First Encounter VR is really the first fully complete game that I've played in VR. All the rest I've played are 'Oh, shoot all these things, then go to the next area for another wave of things to shoot.'

Well, I guess you could add Duck Force into that (which is also for Linux), it is just a silly game (fun though).

Respect to Croteam for the wonderful support they've always offered. I just wish more game studios did the same.

Croteam doesn't beat around the bush, if only more developers could be like this! I love the fact they are just going full Vulkan now. That's a smart move even thought it took them a while to get to that stage, other developers prefer to spend their time complaining about missing tool sets (there coming, do what can be done and move forward I say!)

Also, isn't SeriousSam a little fast pace for VR? its like DOOM4, I can't imagine anyone doing well in VR with those games!

I am seriously in Love with Croteam (yes, pun intended :D ). I love the Sam Franchise, I own all titles on Steam, so I am really looking forward to play them again.
Best thing in my books, they won't implement DX12 and remove the old DX9 Backend, and only use Vulkan, even on Windows. If more developers start to adapt this, we will see a whole bunch of new games on Linux too.

These guys were always on the ball with innovation. Back when we all had the original Radeon cards and Geforce 2's, Croteam was showing off all kinds of advanced rendering concepts such as bump mapping and SSS with the original Serious Sam game. Way to go Croteam we love ya!
