That's right folks, DiRT Rally [Steam, Feral Site] is now officially confirmed to be coming to Linux and it arrives on March 2nd. Feral Interactive are behind the port, so it will be another good one I hope.

The good news I have for you is that the multiplayer will be cross platform with Windows, which will make the online modes that much more satisfying for us. Up to four players can race online together.

At release it will be priced at £39.99/$59.99/€49.99. Not a cheap game, but well worth it. I have very fond memories of playing rally games on my original Playstation as a child.

About the game
In DiRT Rally, the official game of the FIA Rallycross Championship, players take the wheel of the world’s most iconic rally cars, including the MINI Cooper S and the Lancia Delta S4. They will need to choose the right tools, strategy and team to master events in over 70 stages across Greece, Wales, Monte Carlo, Germany, Finland and Sweden. Each race offers up a new challenge with a range of environments such as muddy paths, dusty trails and snow-laden tracks, as well as a variety of weather types.

Career mode forms the core of the game: players start on the bottom rung of the rally ladder and compete in a series of championships. As they work their way up to the top division, they’ll earn in-game money, which they can use to buy new cars. The tough nature of off-road racing in DiRT Rally means that players will need to hire a team of engineers to repair their vehicles between stages. As players drive a vehicle in events, their engineers will unlock upgrades that unleash the full potential of the car.

Events take place across three different disciplines; as well as point-to-point Rally races, players can also tackle the tight and mixed-surface circuits of Rallycross and the challenging course of Hillclimb.

Players can dive straight into the action, or fine-tune their car's setup to suit the track, weather and their personal driving style. They can even make manual adjustments to their car’s brake bias, level of damping, gear ratio and more. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

So, how does that work, Feral? Am I supposed to setup a recurring wire transfer from my bank account to yours? :D

I really, really hope that this game will support the Steam controller API as well. That would future-proof it when it comes to racing wheels.
On the other hand, I am not sure there has been a single game that Feral ported which had support for it. Which is a shame, Life is strange played perfectly with the steam controller except for the focus portions :/

Nice to have a big, native rally game. I will definitely buy this one (if that wasn't clear already), although I will probably wait for a new ryzen build, though, as I suspect my current one won't match the minimal specs.

Wohooo... i have been waiting for this!

hopefully i can buy and build my Ryzen PC before that :)

If feral manages to keep the optimization level like the did with Mad Max you won't need to have that, seriously this game on windows is playable with core2duo processors.

i'm sure it runs on my current system also, grid autosport does and dirt rally afaik uses pretty much same engine.

mad max however was pretty bad in places, it ran yeah like 70+ fps on the open world, but in some camps, looking at specific angles framerates were down to 19-25 fps only which sucked pretty bad and my gpu utilization dropped on those places which indicates some sort of cpu bottleneck or something weird happening.

It was a CPU bottleneck in the OpenGL backend according to Feral.

Some clever people figured it out quite a while back. Spacious Skies is a lyric from America the Beautiful, which is based on a poem titled Pike's Peak (a track featured in the game). The type of drum in the picture shared its name with a system (navigation?) used in rally racing.

The drum is a Jemba (or Djembe), which is also the name of a notes system used in Rally for pace notes:

Oh damn holy shit. I was really hoping for that one to arrive on Linux some time since they ported other games of Codemasters already. That's a must buy for me.

Finally a rally game. Can't believe it. And a that good one ... cross platform MP... and with Feral behind there can't go much wrong.

Thanks Feral! And of course Codemasters for letting them do that, they own the IP (and I'm sure they'll get some profit too). Still an unusual business model this porting business.

Hopefully everyone wins on that. Codemasters. Feral. And of course we Linux gamers will win a great game.

As I understand it, this restriction came from the original game, not from the port. Since I haven't heard about any such requirement from this game, it should be fine.

Nope, from what I have read the game runs just fine on Phenom IIs on Windows, this is a Linux only issue, and it would be very sad if that will now be also the case for Dirt Rally.
Oh, and before I get the same "your CPU is to slow to run the game anyways" that seems to be the theme on the Steam forums, my X6 easily outperforms the Core i3-4130 that is given as a minimum in the system requirements for Deus Ex.
