That's right folks, DiRT Rally [Steam, Feral Site] is now officially confirmed to be coming to Linux and it arrives on March 2nd. Feral Interactive are behind the port, so it will be another good one I hope.

The good news I have for you is that the multiplayer will be cross platform with Windows, which will make the online modes that much more satisfying for us. Up to four players can race online together.

At release it will be priced at £39.99/$59.99/€49.99. Not a cheap game, but well worth it. I have very fond memories of playing rally games on my original Playstation as a child.

From the press release:
Quote“DiRT Rally captures the essence of rally racing with an advanced handling model, giving players a thrillingly authentic simulation,” said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive. “Whether players are splashing through water in bucolic Wales or getting to grips with the snow in Sweden, they’ll need to adapt their style to stay ahead. This is rally racing at the next level.”

About the game
In DiRT Rally, the official game of the FIA Rallycross Championship, players take the wheel of the world’s most iconic rally cars, including the MINI Cooper S and the Lancia Delta S4. They will need to choose the right tools, strategy and team to master events in over 70 stages across Greece, Wales, Monte Carlo, Germany, Finland and Sweden. Each race offers up a new challenge with a range of environments such as muddy paths, dusty trails and snow-laden tracks, as well as a variety of weather types.

Career mode forms the core of the game: players start on the bottom rung of the rally ladder and compete in a series of championships. As they work their way up to the top division, they’ll earn in-game money, which they can use to buy new cars. The tough nature of off-road racing in DiRT Rally means that players will need to hire a team of engineers to repair their vehicles between stages. As players drive a vehicle in events, their engineers will unlock upgrades that unleash the full potential of the car.

Events take place across three different disciplines; as well as point-to-point Rally races, players can also tackle the tight and mixed-surface circuits of Rallycross and the challenging course of Hillclimb.

Players can dive straight into the action, or fine-tune their car's setup to suit the track, weather and their personal driving style. They can even make manual adjustments to their car’s brake bias, level of damping, gear ratio and more. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Feral you are the best! Was sad when this game was released back in 2015 and had no Linux port. Better late than never! Will be buying this on or near release! Thanks again Feral you rock!

Quoting: GuestReally a great autosport game, a game like this was something we lacked.

Project CARS 2 could also be released this year :)
Project: Cars got abandoned in terms of more platforms to be ported to.

Quote've bought a used Logitech Driving Force GT for around 60 € last year and couldn't be happier. It works out-of-the-box with GRID Autorsport and F1 2015. I believe it has the best cost/benefit of the market (top-tier wheels like the G25, G27 and G29 will set you back quite a few hundred bucks) and is a great option for your first wheel. The only thing I miss about it is a clutch pedal.

You are right it was the best price/value on the market (1 year ago it was around 90€ for a new one). It tends to disappear and Logitech hasn't announced a replacement for it. The price has raised way too much (around 150€ for that model now). I would not really know which one to advice today.

I Spent about 200hours on Dirt Rally. I expect to spend at least 200 more on the linux version^^.

Dirt Rally is quite realistic, I haven't tried with all assists enabled. But One detail I can give, is that it is almost as punishing as real driving. Your car won't get totally destroyed (unless full speed straight on a rock), but you will loose a lot of time, and rally is all about time attack.

Although I recommend not to look so much at the timers. Instead just enjoy the ride and the different cars otherwise it may become frustrating if you try hard too much. The roads are all good choices from Codemaster Racing Studio, and you will only get better with practice.

The feeling while driving is very good even on a xbox pad (especially as you can feel the vibrations from the rear of the car.) This game made me purchase a wheel, and I don't regret it although it was a big budget for me (g29+shifter for 290€ promotion). It took me quite a while to find the settings to make the game feel natural driving and I will post my setups once the game is out.

Looking forward to that port. Peace

Oh man, finally... now that D4 was announced, it's time for them to scrape up the remains with a linux port... how sweet.
Well, at least we can buy it in March then. Luckily the port will be pretty good considering that it's from Feral.
This is it! No more Colin McRae rally games through Wine! Thank you Feral; instabuy it will be.

I just bought a G920 to play Grid Autosport two days ago. It works great and I'm looking forward to some rally action with Dirt Rally. Thanks Feral, you guys/girls are legends!

Quoting: chuzzle44I want to be excited, but Grid Autosport taught me that I can't drive. Beautiful, amazing game, and all I can do do is spin and crash my way through the game. Here's hoping for a good arcade racer.

Have you tried Dirt Showdown? That's quite Arcade to me and real fun. :)
Yeah, I've already played through Showdown, and with no internet it's become rather boring.

Been waiting on this for a while. Way to go Feral!

I have the same doubts with regards to Dirt Rally, after trying Grid Autosport. Note, though, that disabling all the driving assistance in Grid Autosport actually makes the game easier to play.
That's because we drive like maniacs, tearing around corners and using rewind when we crash. I couldn't even finish a race without rewinding. Now, I actually have gotten better at it, but I still don't enjoy it. So very beautiful though.
