It's fantastic to see another Feral Interactive port with day-1 Mesa support, so this should keep the AMD crew happy.
I'm hoping to have a review and port report ready for release as usual, so stay tuned for that.

Great news, will pick it up!

So, if anyone from Feral reads this: does this need the same stupid SSSE3 support that Deus Ex needs?

4770 as recommended cpu.. that means my FX-8320@4,5ghz wont have nice time cranking everything to max?
Ryzen is not far away though :D

Pardon my noobish question but I have Ubuntu 16.04 and the game requires 16.10. Is there a chance I could run the game on 16.04? I don't feel like upgrading my perfectly working OS because of one game...

Yeah youre right bulldozer and derivatives have very low single thread performance compared with haswell and upper
Ryzen must be appear in some place in march, if at least have haswell single thread performance are acceptable if is more cheap than intel alternatives

Will it really have to be Ubuntu 16.10? Like library-wise? Or will 16.04 LTS be working, too?

The engine Codemasters use is not multithread friendly. It task a single core and let the rest do squat. There is nothing Feral can do to correct that.
I also have a FX8350 but I took a opportunity to buy a friends i7 3770k last year and man, the performance diference in Grid Autosport and some other games are huge. That also occurs in Windows, BTW.
So if Ryzen do it stuff well, I gonna take one too, especially if some manufacturer bother to launch a Mini-ITX AM4 board.

Only Feral can answer that for sure, but I can tell you that I'm still on 14.04 and I've played every game that Feral has released so far, and I'll be playing Dirt Rally too. The graphics driver version is the important thing.

Maybe feral can tell us why they force SSSE3 support in their last games? Is it really such a big speed difference? CPU-Speed wise I never had a serious problem with my phenom 2 X4 yet but now I am forced to wait for Ryzen to play the new fancy stuff :-/

@Corben, @Frank
In short yes. At worst case you will have to manually provide some libraries. I think that installing few updated packages will do the trick. Of course you can be lucky and have it running out-of-box.

Don't you just need to run a system update, e.g.:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
You can check the current version with:
cat /etc/debian_version
From my perspective, 16.04 is the release version. And 16.xx is what you get after running updates.
e.g. On my PC at work, Debian 8.0 is what I originally installed, and now it is up to Debian 8.7

This is what it is like on Debian, but not on Ubuntu. 16.04 is an LTS version with 5 years support, 16.10 is an interim version with only 9 months support. Both are different releases.Pardon my noobish question but I have Ubuntu 16.04 and the game requires 16.10. Is there a chance I could run the game on 16.04? I don't feel like upgrading my perfectly working OS because of one game...It sounds like others are optimistic, but it would be nice to have clarification from Feral. Xenial can use the 4.8 kernel (hwe), but different libraries may be a stretch.
For me, there is exactly 0% chance I am going to upgrade from a 16.04 LTE base (neon) until 18.04.1 LTE is out.
EDIT: Liam, it might be an interesting survey question for the ubuntu-based distributions, for users to enter the version they are running. Perhaps that would be useful info for developers.

Man, I don't think I can run it. My trusty Quadro K1100M may not have enough juice for it. I am tempted to try though. It's not a gaming card, but is supposedly more optimized for OpenGL. I managed to play Shadow of Mordor, Tomb Raider, and Alien: Isolation on it fairly comfortably, so maybe there is hope? Right? :S:
