Feral Interactive have officially announced their next Linux port and it's going to be 'HITMAN' [Steam]. Another awesome game for our platform. This is the complete first season too, so we get plenty of content.

They plan to release Hitman for Linux on Thursday 16th of February, so be sure mark your calendars.

This is amazing, as we get Civilization VI from Aspyr Media, Hitman and then DiRT Rally both from Feral Interactive in the space of about a month. All three games I'm incredibly excited to see on Linux, as all of them big franchises for us to have to keep moving forward.

I told you this year was going to be good, so don't doubt me eh!

I'm nearly out of hard-drive space, I'm actually going to have to buy an new hard drive just for games, on Linux, insanity.

David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral InteractiveHitman is a franchise that has defined the stealth genre, and this game is very much a return to the series’ roots. It’s been a long wait to get a Hitman title onto Linux, but I can’t think of a better way than this to introduce the series to Linux gamers.

Feral have confirmed it will be an OpenGL title, so no Vulkan at launch. Of course, it's entirely possible they may update it in future to use Vulkan.

It will cost £39.99/$59.99/€49.99 for the whole season, but episodes can be purchased individually.

EDIT: "HITMAN FOR MAC IS STANDING BY FOR METAL"

Metal becomes a running gag.

Mac users can upgrade their beautiful hardware with Linux. ;)

Behave yourselves. :P

I asked on Facebook. They said its opengl. Vulkan is coming later in the year, it wasn't clear if they are planning Vulkan for an unreleased game or for titles like Hitman and Dues Ex that have a DX12 back end already.

The way Feral has been porting lately I don't see any reason they would add Vulkan to existing titles or any reason we would want them to, it would just slow down the releases. Seems much preferable they would just make future ports with Vulkan initially. Down the road I could see them doing it, after they've built up experience and expertise with Vulkan and created a somewhat automated conversion process of OpenGL-Vulkan.

Instabuy. No discussion. I hope it's not on sale when it hits our shores. Feral deserves every penny.

They already confirmed last year that Deus Ex MD will be their first Vulkan title (that they will add Vulkan support for the game in Spring 2017).

To clarify, we haven't announced what our first Vulkan game will be, nor a timescale of spring. We're aiming to get a Vulkan game out in the first half of this year.

If you got Vulkan tangled up with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, that's because we talked about Vulkan during a Deus Ex: Mankind Divided live stream. Which was nice and confusing, woo.

I don't think they specified which game it'd be for, but it was during a Deus Ex livestream, which might have lead people to conclude this.

EDIT: Beaten to it by Quickdraw Ellie.

Metal aside... TBH i still dont understand how some publishers even consider to port AAA games to Mac. Yes, market share looks promising, but then you look at the HW and you see very basic mobile GPUs and you have to realize that it does not matter if you choose to use OpenGL or some Metal magic because macs are so terribly underpowered that only thing what makes sense now is porting games to Linux. Maybe one day will Apple get their sh*t together and enry level iMacs or mac mini will get at least GTX1050M, but porting games like Hitman or DE:MD to GPUs like Intel Iris Pro or for some old radeons is a nonsense. Linux is the way to go for Feral, Aspyr, VP and others.. Apple does not care for gamers. Believe me, i know what i am talking about as past iMac owner(late 2012 with GT650M - replaced for X51 R2 + GTX1060 for the same price..)

They said *A* Vulkan title. They did not say anything about which game that was going to be. My vote is on a game that released (or will release) on Windows after that point.

According to Steam review, it doesn't seem so good. Overall 67% (11k reviews) and Recents 79% (almost 600).
