Into The Breach [Official Site, Steam] has been announced by Subset Games, the creators of the excellent FTL. It will support Linux, but not at day-1.

Trailer:

From their announcement:
QuoteInto the Breach is a single-player game coming to Windows, Mac, and Linux (although not simultaneously). There is no planned release date. Ben Prunty, FTL’s composer, is making an original soundtrack for the game, and award-winning sound designers PowerUp Audio are heading up the rest of the audio. Chris Avellone is lending his writing talents and world building skills to the team as well.

Featurs
Defend the Cities: Civilian buildings power your mechs. Defend them from the Vek and watch your fire!

Perfect Your Strategy: All enemy attacks are telegraphed in minimalistic, turn-based combat. Analyze your opponent’s attack and come up with the perfect counter every turn.

Build the Ultimate Mech: Find powerful new weapons and unique pilots as you battle the Vek infestation across Corporate-Nation islands.

Another Chance: Failure is not an option. When you are defeated, send help back through time to save another timeline!

It looks and sounds fantastic and I look forward to playing it whenever it arrives! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

FTL is one of my favourite games. I've put probably 150 hours into playing it. Own it on GOG *and* Steam. I enjoy the fun of just playing a random adventure. The completion of the achievements in order to earn new ships, and then have a go at piloting them, are all things which make it very replayable for me. The game play is very well crafted. It is also great for small spurts of play. Play for 10 minutes, save the game, quit out, return later and continue from where you'd reached.

Watching news about the new game with interest.

I was hoping for a FTL 2 with something like an open Universe. I've dreamed about an Elite-like FTL... By the way, do you guys know if Star Citizen will come to linux?

221 hours of FTL here. One of my favorit games. I was hoping for FTL 2 but I'm hyped about anything from this dev.

Let's see…Steam says 358 hours in FTL for me, so whatever game Subset Games puts out next automatically has my attention. Seems interesting, I'll have to wait for more details.

Wonder if they'll put this one up on Kickstarter too, or if they've done well enough from FTL to make that unnecessary. :)

FTL was a gem, it will be hard to top. @Feda It never crashed for me and I played it on three different graphics cards and GPUs (Nvidia, Haswell, Atom).

I never finished FTL and could never bring myself to play it for a longer period of time. But I do like the game nonetheless.

Into the Breach looks very nice again and I will also pick it up.

They said so. Since they can't even finish it on Windows I won't get my hopes up to high. Much noise about something that might turn out to be average in the end... :/

It's the best Advanced Wars trailer to date.
