The recent Mesa release of Mesa 17.0.0 included a patch from a Feral Interactive developer, but Feral aren't stopping there. Another developer from Feral has had two patches accepted into Mesa-git today.

It looks like these help with Intel's Vulkan driver 'anv'.

The two patches add support for 'shaderStorageImageWriteWithoutFormat':
QuoteThis allows shaders to write to storage images declared with unknown format if they are decorated with NonReadable ("writeonly" in GLSL).

And also 'SpvCapabilityStorageImageWriteWithoutFormat':
QuoteAllow that capability if the driver indicates that it is supported, and flag whether images are read-only/write-only in the nir_variable (based on the NonReadable and NonWritable decorations), which drivers may need to implement this.

It seems the Mesa developers were happy to see these patches too, as they were thanked on the mailing list by another Mesa developer who reviewed and accepted the patches.

Good to see Feral getting their hands dirty in helping to improve Mesa. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Awesome to see Feral working on Mesa, and doubly awesome seeing them take an interest in Vulkan drivers. I guess they really are releasing their first Vulkan port soon.
