More possible good news today. It seems Knockout Games might be doing the porting work of Killing Floor 2 [Steam, Official Site] for Linux.
I had an email tip about a conversation the one-man porting studio Knockout Games had on Twitter. It seemed to hint that Aaron was porting Killing Floor 2 and it's actually listed on his website now too.
He couldn't give me any details over Twitter when I asked other than the fact that he is working on Killing Floor 2 (source):
QuoteI am working on KF2. Not sure what I am doing is announced so can't speak to it.
Out of respect, I won't prod Aaron any more on this. I have contacted Tripwire directly to see if they fancy confirming it properly.
It would be great to see, since it was confirmed for Linux so long ago. Will you pick up a copy when it releases for Linux?

I swore to never buy a TripWire game ever again. But then, if it's Aaron porting it over, I'll buy it anyway.
About TripWire, the way this company communicates (or doesn't, obviously) is really getting on my nerves. The deletion of both the website entry and the tweet confirms their intention to fool their customers. Remember that we never had - and will obviously never have an official statement on why they won't fix KF1 on Linux.

Will get this if it comes out!

I feel a bit silly when I admit it, but I'm still sulky that Tripwire didn't release KF2 on Linux in the first place. It's coal in their stockings for now. Naughty devs, you broke my heart.

It is very typical in the gaming industry for practically all game companies to insist on signing an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) for anyone who is working on any aspect of a game (external contractor or internal staff). Then the company controls information about game releases. It is usually set up so that release information is meticulously planned through the marketing team.

For what it is worth Unreal Engine ports are not easy y'all. Gotta release the game to make the moneys to pay the employees to feed the families. Holding off release for a Linux (or any platform) port is unfortunately fiscally impossible. Linux support isn't built into UE3 so it has to be bolted on case by case (very carefully :-D).
Mighty No. 9 (another UE3 game) was the largest time investment I put into a port and was not profitable for me personally (I sub-contracted for it too much). Because of that I know the fiscal pain first hand T_T.
Sorry for the deletion of KF2 from site and twitter, but it really isn't my place to run PR for my clients.

People are getting upset when a developer promises Linux support and months or maybe years after the game is released on Windows, the Linux port is still under development.
If you can't keep your promise, don't do it in the first place. But this is how I think...
