Here's one I've not heard of before! Quetoo (originally Quake2World) [Official Site], a free and open source FPS that's currently in Beta is asking for votes on Steam Greenlight.

The source is under the GPL, but some artwork and sounds are under different licenses. You can find it on github here and license information here.

Features
- 11 Quake-inspired weapon choices, from shotguns to lightning dispensers
- 17 maps made by their team - some favourites ported from their inspired sources (Quake, Quake II), some original maps made specially for Quetoo, and more to come
- User-generated content. Like most Quake-based games, you can add/replace models, maps, and even make your own code mods! They plan to support Steam Workshop as well, and provide extensive tutorials on their content generation utilities
- Many ways to play. Free-for-all, team deathmatch, match mode, CTF, instagib, all built into the base game!

Give it a vote if you like the look of it. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Doesn't look like much of an improvement over Xonotic but the Steam factor might give it some popularity.

Sounds really nice ! Quake2 was my all-time favorite multiplayer game :) Too bad the old q2 anticheat system didn't work on linux so I couldn't play anymore after permanent switch. However, I hope they have some kind of anticheat system included.

This is Quake2World. They renamed themselves in order to avoid potential legal issues with id.

It's not supposed to be an improvement over Xonotic or Warsow. It's supposed to be Quake 2. Which is perfect by definition.

Has anyone tried getting this working on Linux yet? The updater just says "Failed to spawn process: 2"
I can run the game without updating though but it just crashes when trying to join a game, or freezes if I try to access the "Player" menu.

I might try to compile it myself later and see if that helps.

LOL this is not inspired by Quake, this is a re-implementation of Q2. All the same maps, same weapons, it's like a texture pack really. Aren't they going to get in trouble for that? I'd play it though.
