We saw signs of RPG Maker MV [Steam] coming to Linux early last year, but now it's official. RPG Maker MV now has a Linux version and it can export Linux games.
With the release of the 1.4.0 update, anyone who owns it now has access to the Linux version on Steam. So anyone wanting to make simple RPG games on Linux has access to a highly rated tool.
I know a lot of people prefer their open source tools, but these tools are popular and having them on Linux means the possibility of more people switching without giving up their favourite applications. Hopefully we will see more developers come over to Linux thanks to tools like this.
What makes this application so popular is that it takes away a lot of the more complex parts of making an RPG game, so it's an especially useful tool if you have great artistic skills, but perhaps not so great programming skills. It opens up making games for more people.
RPG Maker MV can now export to:
- Windows/EXE
- MacOSX/APP
- Android/APK
- iOS/IPA
- HTML 5 for Web Browsers
- Linux
That's a pretty decent list!

Some fantastic plugins for MV by Yanfly, available at http://yanfly.moe
So even if you can't code, there are others releasing plugins.

I'm sucker for JRPGs on mobile tho. Best time wasters by far... And they produce them in Japan like candy lol..

Nice to see that RPGMaker has finally landed on Linux.
It's a pity that RPGBoss, OpenRPG and EasyRpg (the editor part) development has stalled.
I ended up using "O.H.R.RPG.C.E" for my rpg projects as it is the only mature FLOSS rpg maker running on Linux currently.
The Interface looks dated but it is really quite powerful with its hamsterscript language and tree like "slice" system for building complex gui stuff.
Development is quite active too.

Hey Wendigo. Is hamsterscript similar to any other scripting language?

The syntax reminds me a little of Pascal or Visual Basic.
Here are a few example scripts:

And a list of all available commands:

Haven't tested it myself but believe they should, will update once I gwt home and have a chance to test. They are javascript files that are put in a plugin folder that your project.
Update: Haven't tried every single plugin, but everyone I did test (about 40) didn't seem to have any issues.

So, sorry to bring up an old topic here, but was just trolling around Atari forums and thought "You know, maybe I could use RPG Maker to recreate some of the great oldies like the DunjonQuest games! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunjonquest so then I started looking on humble bundle store (I think that's where I got at least one of the older versions of the program) and noticed their store page doesn't even show Linux support for RPG Maker MV. So I sent them a request to add that to their store page.
Anyone make anything cool with this yet?
