Serious Sam Fusion 2017 [Steam] the massive update from Croteam is now available for Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter [Steam].

The Fusion update to Serious Sam will enable all games to support Linux plus Vulkan, 64bit, Multithreaded rendering and more!

To get access, you have to buy Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter and it will later be rolled out to Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter and then Serious Sam 3: BFE and the VR versions.

It will show up as an additional game in your library under "Serious Sam Fusion 2017 (beta)", as Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter by itself is not on Linux, but it is with the Fusion update (which will cover all of their Serious Sam games, as mentioned).

I've tested it out and it works really well! Performance with the Vulkan option (not the default) seems to be really, really good. You can easily switch between Vulkan and OpenGL in the graphics options, no need for command-line junk here. I've only had a small amount of time with it due to other commitments right now, but I will be testing it out some more later on.

Major issue: Right now loading a saved game while using the Vulkan API might crash and possibly freeze up your system. I've seen it myself now as have others reporting it on the Steam forum.

Here's a video of my first attempts having never played it before while hyped up on caffeine! It makes my twitchy aim even worse, which I didn't think was possible!

Quoting: LinuxDonaldDon't tested performance difference on opengl and Vulkan. But Vulkan render works very good with mesa 17.0.1 :-)
With AMD r290

OpenGL runs at 10-20 frames per second faster. At least on my old gtx650ti. Driver version 378.13.

Unless you're on some weird setup you should get the youtube HTML5 player (which has been a thing for a long time). Also, we have videos in nearly every post...

I have the game running at stable 60 fps with OpenGL (even with vsync unchecked and fps set to unlimited) and at around 100 with Vulkan.
Anyway Vulkan freezed my PC, and a hard reboot was necessary (happened twice).

I'm going to retry soon :)

On my steammachine with SteamOS selecting vulkan crashes to BPM, OpenGL does work though for the few minutes I tried. Maybe this is due to SteamOS still using the 367.27 nvidia drivers on the stable branch

Whoop! First time I've played Serious Sam HD on my Linux machine (and that includes WINE). Running nice and smooth at 4K resolution. There seems to be a little save game glitch, but even so it has worked okay for me so far. I'm going to enjoy playing this. Big big fan of Serious Sam 3 BFE, which I've completed including the DLC. Looking forward to trying SS3 with Vulkan.

I guess that this is the first Vulkan title I've played under Linux as well. (Played DOOM on Vulkan under Windows - hissss!)

[EDIT]Just checked the community page and they said they're looking into this issue, so disregard my post.[/EDIT]

I'm a bit confused.

I purchased the game from the serious sam fusion link here http://store.steampowered.com/app/564310/
It looked like the same thing as the one here http://store.steampowered.com/app/41000/

After trying to run it though I see:
An error occurred while updating Serious Sam Fusion 2017 (beta) (invalid app configuration)
I wonder if it's because I don't see TFE HD in my library at all.

Try again, the problem was fixed now.
