I am a massive fan of 'Avorion' [Steam] as this Early Access space sandbox has a lot going for it and it just got a major update. I am also considering setting up a GOL server for it!

This new update will mean a re-design of your ships, so be warned. The flight model has been reworked and you now need to make use of three new blocks: Directional Thruster, Gyro Array, Inertia Dampeners.

It also introduces a group system, so you can group up with fellow pilots to explore and conquer the galaxy. You will see members of your group display on-screen and on the map, making it easy to find each other.

There's also now a server browser, making it much easier to join servers if you're planning to do some online play. The developer also enabled password-protected servers, making it a bit more friendly to manage if you want to restrict it to a community (like GOL).

It also includes tons of bug fixes of course, making the entire experience more stable.

I am thinking about running a server for it, but I need to know if there's interest in it. Let me know in the comments if you would be interested in it. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I bought the game first day...
sadly I'm still not able to play it.
It freezes (IN MY CASE) every time when I try to create a new galaxy.
I haven't found a solution for this issue yet.

I really... really want to play this game... :'(

I bought the game and really like it as well. I don't think I will have enough time to invest into it, but it would be nice to have a gol server, especially if the new update encourage team play, which was not the case earlier.

Did you guys know that the game is developed on Linux? Yep, it's true :)

If only it ran at anywhere near acceptable framerates on my 3440x1440 screen, I'd love to jump on multiplayer but it's unfortunately a bit of a slideshow currently.

EDIT: Everyone, please ignore that. It was a driver issue, not the game.

The graphics looks pretty similar to the X series. Does it also play like that?

That would be a reason to buy the game.

It's been a while since I played X, but as I remember it, not really. It's a bit more like EVE done in Minecraft.

I registered an account to say I'd love to connect to a GOL Avorion server. I've played it a bit, but would love to have a more "alive" universe than just my machine at home!

A Starmade Server might be nice. Had problems with that game though, mouse reset to centre every time I passed into a new sector. Really annoying in dogfights. It's fun to build ships together anyhow.
